Re: which engine has more potential for more power?

possibly using custom H beam forged rods I don't think aftermarket rods would be necessary for the greater majority of applications, likely including this one. I went for aftermarket rods to decrease weight and be able to use 20 mm wrist pin pistons. I'm using 20v pistons and a 20v head. There are ...

Re: which engine has more potential for more power?

LongGrain summed it up pretty well. All you need is cams and compression and a 16v will walk on a stock 20v. While I can't guarantee anything to work and while it does greatly depend on how you build it the reason I promote this setup is not that I think it's the best thing that could ever be but b...

High resolution scan for AE101 ITB gasket

I've started scanning things for the purpose of reverse engineering and thought I'd share. Here's the gasket between the intake manifold and throttle bodies for AE101 throttles. The original is 70 x 100 mm at 4800 DPI. If photobucket is being mean somehow, not allowing it, then let me know and I'll ...

I would not agree with that, especially when paired with an O2 sensor and the ability to remap fuel trims. My experience with AFMs has shown them to be extremely accurate consistent and adaptable. As far as stock ECUs go I would take AFM over MAP 9 times out of 10 because you can do a lot more VE m...

Re: which engine has more potential for more power?

According to an old motorweek video the transverse bigport 4As were down in power because the intake manifold was compromised for packaging.

If I remember correctly, 4A-F transmissions have a taller final drive than the 4A-G. There shouldn't be any problem bolting them up.

happy holidays guys, I have few additional questions here as I have read in some websites on the net the earlier bigport 4age bluetop is closer in power to the small port, 129 for blue top big port and 140 for small port, but the bigport mkes more torque than the small port 149 (bigport) vs 141 (sm...

Very interesting. Been following your 20V projects and I remember the adjustable stack length using 2" aluminum tube, but have you done any further testing on the stack length vs power band effects? Not yet. Things have been slow with school. I'm spending the winter rewiring my MS3, getting my...

Re: which engine has more potential for more power?

Tomeis 20v cams haven't been on the market for long, and demand has exceeded supply for most of that time. Pistons and cranks, on the other hand, were never going to sell well in the US market. They're just too expensive compared to domestically produced counterparts. That's true for almost all Japa...

PonCams are very good cams. They put a lot of time into that profile, with engines on dynos. Most cams are based off some math, and simulations, and experience with similar engines. Tomei did testing and interating with an engine on a dyno. They're, hands down, the best money spent on a 4A and stay ...

That's the price for one. Here's my printer: http://projectpam.github.io/ It can do photo resins. Shapeways does their own printing. They can do quite a few different materials. I've got these set up for nylon or a nylon/aluminum blend. These are really more for me, but I figured if anyone else want...

If you were originally looking at an NA Miata, I hate to say it, but you're more likely to find one in good shape than any 80's Toyota. These things have been run into the ground, and you'll find a lot of problems and headaches along the way. As an example, I paid entirely too much money for my AE86...

Also AE86 driving is about character, balance, and driver connection. And more purists will suggest a method of building a well packaged engine that's responsive, linear in torque, and utterly reliable I'll second that one! There's a reason it has the reputation it does. 170-180 is plenty, as long ...

Alright so how about this. 16V 7age. 10.45:1 comp pistons. Turbo. And that JC160 tranny. That's going to be expensive. More importantly, that doesn't say anything about how you're going to get from here to there. I'm a big advocate of working in iteration. Find a way to work in small steps from wha...

The T50s just don't do well with that kind of power through them, especially with boost and sticky tires. There are a few transmission options out there: -rebuilt the T50 with a different gearset, such as TRD or quaife -Get a bellhousing to adapt a W series transmission -Get a J160 from Oldeskewltoy...

Re: Megasquirt coil on plug questions/ ignition questions

Power wise you should not see much difference. However, getting the injection timing just right will help save some fuel. Going to sequential also helps throttle response (or at least it did for me). I'd guess this manifests itself in accel enrichment? I was trying to say I didn't see any significa...
