99% of the one's i have seen the IAT is always in the Airbox that hold the air filter element,
so at the other end of the intake hose to where your arrow is,
and not shown in your picture.

Re: 7AG Block, Is there a best?

I have been through a few 7A blocks,
never found one with oil squirters,
and never found any differences in the blocks,
just the extra's, as some had a dist and some were wasted spark and has a CAS built into the oil pump housing.

Re: Mystery 4AGE Harness Not Cut--Missing ECU Plug 3?

Not sure about the USDM harness,
but on all the JDM harness I have seen the 3 ECU plug is actually part of the dash loom,
as they are the wires that go to the vehicle rather than the engine.

Re: Radio wiring help....

Pretty sure that the grren wire will be a dash light/park light feed,
used to light up the radio at nogth so you can see the buttons on the factory radio.

Not many aftermarket radio's use this wire.

Easy to check, turn on the lights and see if you get power on that wire.

The idle contact in the TPS must also be closed to achieve correct timing,
although the CEL will probably flash a switch code if it is not set correctly.

Re: rear tire skipping under hard braking

I had an issue with the rear skipping under braking in my race car, KE70 so similar setup to AE86. Found the problem a few days later when pulling apart that the top shock mounts were loose, (cant remember why now, but they had been out and put back in by someone else) The harder you braked the wors...

Re: Blacktop Link G4+ ECU

For dealing with detonation I solely rely on the skill of my tuner. I don't tune my own car, I take it to a professional tuner to get done on a dyno with good detonation listening equipment, and leave it at that.
And then make sure the fuel I use comes from a good source.

Re: Blacktop Link G4+ ECU

I just run a simple vvt on at 1500 rpm and off again above xxx rpm.
On the dyno you can find the best vvt switch off point for your setup, probably 6k to 7k rpm somewhere.

I am not a road car so we have not spent much on driveability.

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy

The TPS does matter, especially with the diagnosti connector bridged. The connector must be bridged AND the TPS contact closed before you can set the timing or it will bounce around as the ecu is not correctly in base timing mode. The number of times I have seen cars with the timing incorrect becaus...

Re: ID this wiring harness please...

The part at the top which looks like two wires heatshinked together,

That is the A/C evaporator temperature sensor and goes into the AC box to control the temp so it does not freeze.

So the rest of it is probably all AC stuff too.

Re: T3 crank pulley alignment, 20v st

I take it that you also realise that the Blacktop 20V ones are different to everything else too.

From memory the BT 20V cambelt drive pulley is wider and the crank pulley is narrower,
so a mismatch of the wrong cambelt drive pulley will also put the alternator belts etc out of alignment.

Re: 4AGE 20V Adjustable cam timing with VVT

yeah understand that, but didn't think that a few degrees of cam movement would make that difference, The VVT can show the gain in the low range, as the timing could be up to 25 deg difference between VVT and no VVT, but VVT turns off again at high RPM, 6200 or something, so the difference between V...

Re: 4AGE 20V Adjustable cam timing with VVT

Was back at the dyno last week with the new build. When we originally built the engine years ago, we ran with the cam timing retarded. When you use the 7A block you lift the head up 17mm and so the cambelt pulls the camwheels about 1/2 tooth retarded. We ran it this way for few years and it made goo...

Re: 4AGE 20V Adjustable cam timing with VVT

From what I remember when I looked into when playing around with bits,
the 5 degree difference in the ST and BT cam timing is in the cam.
Swapping from a BT VVT camwheel to a ST VVT camwheel did not change the actual cam timing at all.

4AGE 20V Adjustable cam timing with VVT

So you can get aftermarket adjustable cam wheels for the 4AGE 20V, I know TODA and a few other make them, I had a set in the previous engine build, but they all do away with VVT, which is a big downside. I have been thinking about trying to make the factory VVT cam wheel adjustable. It only goes ont...

I have struck this before a couple of times, usually only on cars where the engine has been transplanted. I have found incorrect wiring which end up with power on the start feed wire to the ecu. I have found that if you need to constantly pump the throttle to keep a car going it is a fuel pressure problem. Pull the return line off not the feed line and put a hose on it into a bucket or container. If you don't get a decent amount of fuel out of the hose while cranking then you don't have eno...
