Re: rolling 1985 toyota corolla coupe sr5 shell with gts stu

How much will a scrap yard give you for it?

Based on that, I hope you at least consider lowering the price closer to that level to keep it from getting smashed, especially a non sunroof chassis.

Seems like a good deal with all the parts, good luck with the sale.

Re: Where can i get my Zenki LSD rebuild in LA CA?

Just make sure they know what they are doing. I can take a differential apart and put it back together, making it look just fine. Odds are it will probably howl when I take it down the road and ruin the ring and pinion gears. With all the scams going on these days, find out if they have a shop and w...

Yeah, 150 is 150, but you can spend a bit more and put in something like a 1uz to get over 200 with a lot more torque.

Re: MAP and Emissions

Map merely senses pressure, afm senses flow. Take that as you will. As for power? You won't notice any difference. Some claim that maps were magically more powerful, but you could attribute that to higher octane japanese gas coupled with increased timing, who knows. I would go with afm in any situat...

Re: MAP and Emissions

Probably depends on what part of oregon. The research I've done seems like DEQ is most strict in metro portland area, but if you do a map conversion CLEANLY, I doubt they would even know. Really depends on whether smog techs actually check the vacuum diagram against the hood label. I've also heard g...

Re: Oil consumption after rebuild

kbox engineering makes a dizzy rebuild kit with a new bearing and seals. I think it was less than $20. The hardest part was getting the gear off without completely destroying it. Just take some time and drill the pin out making sure you drill straight. If the car is burning that much oil, you will k...

Re: 20v 4age VS 20v 7age

Never been a fan of frankenmotors. I'd rather get something that was designed by someone who really knows what they are doing. Think about how much you will dump into getting maybe 150 whp out of a 7age reliably and think of how much power you could make with a factory motor with easy parts availabi...

Yeah Jondee, the spring is pretty much unnecessary, unless the bolt on the tensioner was not tight enough and backed off. That would be the only thing I could think of.

Re: 4age into sr5 help with mounts?

All accessory brackets are different (ac, ps, alternator). The engine mounts themselves and engine mount brackets that come off the engine block are identical between 4ac/4ag. You can forego all those brackets by eliminating ac and power steering (best idea in my opinion). That also means you only h...

Re: 100% original barn find 85 GTS, upgrade or keep?

Above all, I would refrain from daily driving it and just park it as much as you can. Dailying it will just lead to another car that looks like 95% of the others around. If you want a collectible, need to cover and store that thing, driving it only on special occasions. I normally refrain from this ...

Re: Where can i get my Zenki LSD rebuild in LA CA?

The weir stuff can be found at weir performance's website. They were the most reasonable and best stocked for corolla rearend parts/rebuilding. They also carry lsd units, axles and ring and pinion gears. http://weirperformance.com/ If you have a zenki gts differential, and you want the lsd unit itse...

Re: proposal for a "better clutch disc"

I think the 20v flywheel is different so you will have to replace the pressure plate and disc no matter what. If it's a street car I'd consider something full face.

I liked my friend's centerforce dual friction, but you will have to determine if they ever offered those with a 20v.

Yes, when I ordered my set years ago, the hi comp rings were thinner IIRC.

I was able to get a set of perfect circle rings from some local rebuilder.

Save them and do as said above, recondition. If you take your time, they turn out great. No reason to toss a perfectly good set in the already dwindling marketplace.

Re: Where can i get my Zenki LSD rebuild in LA CA?

Any decent 4x4 shop would be where I would go. Get a weir kit and bring it to them so you just pay for their labor. Best advice I ever got was from a 4x4 guy to run 85-140 with my diff. Made it much quieter and didn't thin out so much in the high heat/stress of the track.

You need it to be legal in CA? If not the sky is the limit. If it does need to be legal in california, you are limited to just about nothing. You could do an f20 which would be awesome, but you need to take care of the evap system which it seems few have done. 4agte, 1uz, sr20, 13b, 1uz, vh45, f20c ...

Re: 4AGE Timing belt noise?

A tensioner and belt are cheap enough, I would definitely replace them first. What likely happened in the spring on the tensioner broke, causing the bearing to release all the pressure. You can tighten the bolt down hard enough that you probably don't even need the spring, but it could have slipped....
