Re: 4AGE 20V MANIFOLD GLOWING! HELP
And while I am thinking about it.... can ANYONE tell me from 100% their own personal observation, where the AE111 (blacktop 20V) ignition timing sits at idle (when set to 8-12 deg BTDC with the engine in diagnostic mode), AFTER removing the jumper wire ??? What I am getting at is... does the timing...

Silvertop to blacktop camshaft conversion
So the silver top vvt pulley is now discontinued and the prices for what is left is in the 700-800 range I've been doing some searching but I am not coming up with much. If I want to run the blacktop vvt pulley and camshafts, do I just need to do the typical blacktop ecu conversion or is there more ...

Re: 20v thermostat coolant bleeder valve
Thanks Jondee. That is the procedure that I have always used since I could not find the valve. I assumed that this engine did not have it, but I wanted to make sure since I am about to do another flush.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: 20v thermostat coolant bleeder valve
Is it possible that the 20v does not have a thermostat bleeder valve? The 4age that is found in MR2s have this valve, but I can't find anything confirming that the 20v has this... Maybe that the 4age in the MR2 has this valve due to the longer distance between the engine and radiator but it was not ...

I am unable to locate the thermostat coolant bleeder valve on a 20v ST. Does anyone have a picture of it by any chance?

Re: 20v ST redline at startup
Maybe it was a stuck throttle... Not sure how I would have missed that when I checked it. Maybe I was in too much of a rush due to the high RPMs.... I took you all's advice and I oiled the throttle linkage and now there is no issue. Now I am just concerned about how much damage was done. I noticed t...

Re: 20v ST redline at startup
Thanks for the replies. Your answers makes me even more confused since I am sure that the throttle is closed upon startup. I am seriously thinking about cutting my losses. I have owned this car for 5 years and dropped over $10k in it so far to get it running right, but it has only been drivable for ...

Re: 20v ST redline at startup
I don't see any reason to believe that it is a sticking throttle. The throttle was closed when I checked it. It was sitting at redline long enough for me to crank up the car, jump out of my seat, check for a sticking throttle, run back to my seat, and shut off the car. Maybe not quite 15 seconds. By...

20v ST redline at startup
Hey, my engine revs to redline immediately at startup and then settles at about 4ooo after about 15 seconds. I never let it run further than that out of fear of damaging the engine. Has anyone seen this before? I am trying to determine if it is the VVT solenoid, IACV, or TPS sensor. Any ideas? Could...

...changing to 10w30 today. Why? Hope not in the belief that something is wrong or that something different is going to happen. If you're not in Norway putting gear oil in it or Morocco with 0-5, It's fine, you'll do MUCH MORE serious wear to the engine by starting it with an empty un-primed filter...

Re: Silvertop 20v valve tick
By the way, here are a couple of examples that I found mentioning that the wrong oil could cause the valvetrain noise. I am definitely not going to take one person's opinion about something like this. I researched quite a bit and the way people were speaking, it almost sounded as if it was common k...

Re: Silvertop 20v valve tick
I am placing the negative to the terminal that is nearest to the gear.... Short circuiting the wire that energizes the VVwhatever's oil valve solenoid ? That is NFG. Disconnect or power it only ! NOW. Allen, I was testing the issue to confirm that it was indeed the pulley by running 12v to the sole...

VVT pulley failure causes engine damage?
I read that people have been driving with the ticking Silvertop VVT pulley.
Supposedly, it will only effect performance as VVT will not work properly. Does this sound correct? It will take two to four months before my part gets here....
Thanks,

Re: Silvertop 20v valve tick
It is the vvt pulley. I have been reading that this will not damage the engine and that the only true issue is the noise. There could also be some decrease in performance. Does that sound correct? I found a place that can get me one but it is $500 and it will take 8-12 weeks to get here... Thanks fo...

Thanks for the reply. I actually read that in multiple places. It does not surprise me at all that it is BS. The tick is not extremely loud. I am taking it to Forged Performance in Atlanta tomorrow to have them to do a quick look to confirm. I will probably check the lash next weekend. I will provid...

Silvertop 20v valve tick
I just purchased an 87 MR2 with a Silvertop 20v 4age. I did a compression test before purchasing and everything checked out. I also test drove it twice before purchasing it. The day after I brought it home, I noticed a valve tick from what appears to be the exhaust side, but I can't confirm it becau...
