Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

Holy cow it looks like solid rust in the pic! Hopefully some knowledgeable folks will chime in for you. I have no experience in that area. yeah it's just the angle of the picture. but it's pretty rediculous. i don't know why people let their stuff sit for years and years on end. frustrating. saw so...

Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

i was able to turn the crank after some cussing and elbow grease. i decided to dig a bit deeper today and removed the intake manifold and exhaust manifold and this water plug fell off the block. i found a lot of rust inside the water passage. can this be cleaned out? http://i909.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: is this an 4ac or 4age ecu?

In the picture you can see a very faint 4ag on the right side of the sticker. Also a Google search of the ECU number brings it up as 84-86 corolla gts usdm. wow, you're right. funny, looking at it in persin it's harder to see the fint 4 ag than in the pic. i think the flash is the reason. also did ...

Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

When deleted, usually the entire system is removed for aesthetics because it gets rid of clutter. However yours still has the vacuum system, and instead of putting a block off plate on the intake and a bolt on the exhaust, the tube was just cut and crimped on each end. Maybe someone thought it wasn...

Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

If you do not have an inspection requirement then the engine will run OK without the EGR and most of the other emission controls. Your will need the O2 sensor, it's missing on the exhaust manifold. You will need a replacement or a resistor in the circuit to send the correct voltage to the ECU. You ...

Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

Lots of people loop the steering lines. Not sure if it's really a safety issue, but I wouldn't do it, however I'm picky. Regarding the emissions/egr system... I don't see a pic of the intake side. The exhaust tube is definitely cut. It looks like some of the vacuum components of the system are stil...

i also notice the emissions system seems to have been deleted? can anyone confirm by looking at these pics? you can see in this pic on the exhaust manifold that tube has been clamped shut also same thing for the tube coming off the intake side. next pic http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac294/notni...

Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

i noticed that the steering rack has been looped off with a hose too and there is no power steering reservior or pump in the bay. is this a common thing to do to the 86? i hear sime people do a manual steering conversion and eliminate power steering but is this a safe way to do it?

Re: what would you pay for this SR5?

Dude... holy cow $2k for that? Sellers be trippin... That's scrap price $300. If you can't wait for a better option, perhaps shipping one in from somewhere else (or doing a road trip) should be considered. You'll spend more and/or do more work, but it may be worth it in the long run for a solid bod...

Re: what would you pay for this SR5?

^I didn't realize it had to be a hatch. Just curious why? Fwiw the coupes are lighter, more rigid and quieter. Plus their less subject to 'takumi tax' and more easily fly under the radar. BUT, I am familiar with the need for a hatch - VERY common newb theme. Sorry i didn't specify that it has to be...

Re: what would you pay for this SR5?

It's a lot. Way too much imo. Edit: Here's an example of a reasonably priced roller sr5: https://asheville.craigslist.org/cto/5372358151.html It's a decent price and the hood scoop comes free with the car. ;) However, it's an auto trans and for me anyway it's gotta be a manual and hatchback. Thanks...

Re: what would you pay for this SR5?

I would wait for another. $4k for a gtsr5 that doesn't run is crazy. It has a serious engine problem and has primer exterior... with bodywork (hopefully it's not bondo central). Also, it's a diy carb setup which isn't beginner friendly. (I hope you know an import carb expert.) $1500 at the very mos...

Re: what would you pay for this SR5?

Can you tell me also if there is a difference between a 1984 and 1985 sr-5? Thanks. Hold up. Yes there are differences. In 1984 only the Sr5 was available in the United States. The GTS did not come until 1985. In 1984 the Sr5 was equipped with GTS seats and had some cool stuff going on like power m...
