Re: Fresh rebuild trans pops out of 2nd and grinds immediate

If it were either of those issues, though, would it shift smoothly and operably, while the car is off? It worked fine on the bench, is why I asked. Not being a gearbox guy, I had to do a bit of research on this issue. Kind of interesting, so worth the effort. From what I see, the gears are in mesh ...

Re: Fresh rebuild trans pops out of 2nd and grinds immediate

5th Gear (Or Any Other Gear) Pop-Out Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there about 5th gear pop-out (or any gear for that matter) being caused by worn syncros or some other problem with the syncros. The truth is, the synchronizer rings have absolutely nothing to do with a transmis...

Re: Front swift springs not fitting...?

Well, either the springs are too small or the top hat is too large :P
So to narrow the problem down, you will need to locate some OEM
items.. either GTS or SR5 will do. Check the OEM spring and/or top
hat dimensions against the ones you bought, and go from there.

The engine is running off the cold start injector. Check and make sure
you have 12V at the injectors when the key is in the ON position.

Do I have to have an adjustable Panhard Rod ?

The adjustable Panhard Rod (aka transverse or lateral link) has been talked up to be an essential modification for anyone who lowers their AE86. You know the mantra... lowering the car will push the rear axle housing to one side and your car will drive in circles... yadda... yadda. So how does it wo...

Re: Parts List: Entire Suspension. Help?

In front you probably need to decide if you are going to work with the stock suspension, or use some kind of aftermarket coilover. Because if you use a coilover that comes with spindles, that takes care of the whole strut assembly. Then all you need to find are some lower control arms, brakes, steer...

Re: Coolant temp bouncing around

There is only one thing that can cause the temp to drop in the way that you describe. And that would be if the thermostat was closed, and instead of opening gradually to modulate the temp, it snapped wide open. Suddenly a whole lot of cool water from the radiator would be allowed to start circulatin...

With a 1UZ under the hood, you would be lucky to get past the first

So after i set everything simultaneously, should the TPS be recalibrated after i put the TB back on? It would be a good idea to check and reset if necessary. Sounds a bit like a booster problem to me, but I'm no expert on brakes, so maybe time to narrow things down a bit ? When the engine is running, if all the throttle arms are resting on their throttle stops, you should be able to press down on the arms with your finger, and NOT hear any change in engine revs. If you do hear a change in revs, then something is out of adjustment. You are correct. If all the arms are...

10W40 semi-synthetic from any name brand will have you covered for
everyday use at a reasonable price. If it gets down to minus 10 or 15 deg
Centigrade in winter, you might want to look at a 5W40 for easier starting.

The throttle opener holds the throttles slightly open when the engine is off. This apparently helps the engine to start, although many people remove and discard this item without any problems. When the engine fires, vacuum is applied to the throttle opener servo, and the rod retracts until it is cle...

Re: Help. 16v Redtop Swap

OK... it seems like your AAV is working then, so you may as well take the plug out. Even when the valve is working, there is still a small amount of leakage when it closes (engine warmed up), but it only lifts the idle about 100rpm. You most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere. The last guy with a s...

Re: Help. 16v Redtop Swap

The purpose of blocking the AAV port was to see if the AAV was working. A working AAV will raise the idle to around 2200rpm on a cold engine, tapering back to 850/900rpm once the engine is fully warmed up. If yours started at 2200rpm and did not come down as the engine warmed up, then your AAV is no...

If the factory MAP sensor did not have a hose on it when you got the car, leave it that way. There is no evidence to suggest that the ECU is not working correctly, or that it is in need of adjustment. Chances are it is simply reacting to the inputs it is receiving. Head gasket is blown... pull the head and see if there is any
other damage. If you get lucky a good clean and a fresh factory
head gasket could have you up and running. Just make sure you
change the oil and filter to get as much of the water out as you
can before firing it up.
