Re: Fuel pickup problem with Supra fuel pump in AE86
Simply cut the mounting bracket that holds the pump and either weld or bolt on an extension, to get the pump near the bottom of the tank. I was able to pull the stock wire thru the grommet when extending my AE86 unit. Dave W

Re: Ae86 cold start issue
If it is not the temp sensor, you maybe losting fuel line pressure. The fuel pump should have a check valve to prevent drain back. Let the car set for 6 hrs, then have someone turn on the key while you listen near the fuel tank to determine, if it take abnormal amount of time for the pump to prime t...

Just solder an extension on to your current blade type connector, that will fit inside the different plug. Add some RTV to seal the top of the plug. Dave W

My clutch pedal bracket was also pretty rusty. It appears that Toyota installed the bracket, without any paint, because removing the other component parts to paint the bracket, there was not any signs of paint on any of the other surfaces. Dave W

Re: Brake master upgrades
You can fine tune the braking system by actually changing the lever ratio on the brake pedal linkage. If you move the clevis up towards the pivot, it will harden and lowering it will soften. Just drill a new hole for the clevis pin on the brake pedal arm. You may have to weld up the old hole first b...

The 38.7-39cc is "CHAMBER" volume not HEAD volume. Using a standard head gasket, not TRD gasket and with the pistons set .001" to .003 below the deck for determining the compression ratio on a stock big port. Dave W

A typical stock Big Port head will have a chamber volume around 38.7 - 39cc. As a rough guide .64cc reduction for every .005" milling. Dave W

I have had very old results using the FEL-PRO head gaskets. Has a crush dim of 1.2mm P/N 9661 PT Also look at the FEL-PRO exhaust header gasket, P/N MS92939. If you are doing any bottom end work, the 2pc sump gasket set works very good on these old distorted oil pans. The two pc gasket set FEL-PRO P...

Running your drive line angle at 3* will not cause any real issues. Ideally you want the u-joints running at parallel angles, but in the real world carrying four or five passager in the car would change the drive angle more than that. I'm running just a 1* drive angle, and have adjust the pinion ang...

Re: anyone have DIY dizzy heat shield?
You can attach the shield using the hold down bolts for adjusting the timing. A little more work you can use the two small screws that hold the wire separater and one hold down bolt. I have also seen shields that use the two screws that hold on the cap. I used the 2nd option. DaveW

Re: Noob question hour! AE86 brakes?
The real issue is how did the air get into the system. Check all the calipers and the master cylinder for any signs of brake fluid leaking around the pistons or M/C push rod. There could also be the possiblity that the hoses are so old that they are expanding under pressure, so check there condition...

Re: Mechanical fuel pumps failing
All it takes is one flake of rust in the valve, to prevent the fuel pump from working. It is worth a try to take and blow compressed air thru the pump to see if you can dislodge the rust. I would also put a low restriction filter [see thru type] in front of the pump inlet. Do the same, if you have t...

Re: Anybody ever rebuilt their own brake booster?
I think you would be better off just refinishing the current canister. You will in all likelihood screw up the finish when you pry open the darts around the circumference of the booster to get to the diapham. If you do go that route put clamps on the booster or put it in a vise while open up the boo...

Re: GTS swap will crank, start for a second, then die
There is a common ground for the 4 injectors. Look for 4 wires "brown" connected to a single eyelet, make should you a good connection. You may be able to feel the injectors pulse thru your hand, while someone cranks the engine to see if they are getting a signal to the injectors. 2nd opti...
