Re: ae86 exhaust system clogged

Copy and paste to save me typing the whole thing :) Excess Fuel Entering Exhaust . The fuel that powers your vehicle is meant to burn in the combustion chamber only. Any fuel that leaves the combustion chamber unburned will enter the exhaust system and light-off when it reaches the catalytic convert...

Re: a/c question

I think you will have some problems. AFAIK the 4AC compressor runs a single v-belt while the 4AGE runs a 5-rib polywee belt. Chances are you will need the 4AGE cradle and the tensioner from a non-p/s car... if you can find one in the US :P You will probably save yourself a lot of grief if you can gr...

Re: Oil pressure

On all engines with the correct idle speed, the cold oil pressure will be higher than the warm oil pressure, due to the oil being "thicker" when it is cold. As the engine warms up the oil becomes "thinner" and the idle pressure will drop. Yes, when you rev the engine the oil pres...

Re: I hate to say it....

You should not need any sealant if you use the correct acorn nuts. The seal/washer
things have rubber top and bottom and are designed to work with the acorn nuts.
They only leak on the thread with open type hex nuts.

Re: The question that gets asked. #284 sw20 in ae86

... Or am I still missing something? Yes. The information I have gathered tells me that a standard length AE86 sealed cartridge insert for the front strut is 400mm long. An AGX SW20 rear insert is said to be 360mm long (I haven't been able to confirm that). So, for the purposes of discussion, lets ...

Re: 4AGE Timing belt noise?

What likely happened in the spring on the tensioner broke, causing the bearing to release all the pressure. You can tighten the bolt down hard enough that you probably don't even need the spring, but it could have slipped. The spring is only there to help you when you are tensioning the belt. The t...

Re: The question that gets asked. #284 sw20 in ae86

I recently disassembled some t3 front coilovers for ae86 (40mm shortened strut casings and kyb 765015 inserts). T3 used a 6mm spacer on the bottom and the insert is captive inside the strut tube. This set also had oem gland nuts with an oem style rubber seal inside which limits travel and spaces th...

Re: Erratic Tach, Misfire, CEL code 6, HELP!

Try putting a temporary 12V feed straight from the battery positive to the coil positive. That will take the key switch supply out of the equation. Just remember you will have power on the coil and igniter all the time, regardless of key position. And that black/orange wire runs thru the big squaris...

Re: Replaced speedo driven gear...speedo still not working

The speedo DrivE gear is steel versus the DriveN gear that is plastic... steel wins :) So you need to check: 1. Does the end of the spindle from the DriveN gear rotate if you jack up one rear wheel and spin it ? 2. Is the end (square from memory) of the cable that connects to the gearbox still there...

Hahahahah.... I fkn hate it when that happens.   Ya... you are right. It is the # 765015 FRONT cartridges that work with a 40mm cut. If you wanted to use the rear struts you could probably measure carefully and cut exactly what you need (no need for a spacer). Good thing someone i...

Re: The question that gets asked. #284 sw20 in ae86

The SW20 uses inserts front and rear. The rear inserts are longer than the front ones, and are most likely valved a little firmer than the fronts (TRD SW20 inserts are). KYB # 765016 AGX SW20 rear cartridge length 360mm 172 stroke KYB # 765015 AGX SW20 front cartridge length 332mm 172 stroke Most pe...

Re: KONI Sports shocks for the AE86...

Gotzoom ... thank you !!! I am going down the Koni path simply because I got the front inserts at a very good price, and because I have had good experience with Koni's in the past. Top adjustment would be nice, but not essential. So now I shall see if the local Koni guy can do me the standard AE86 ...

Re: KONI Sports shocks for the AE86...

The biggest problem with trying to crossover shocks is the extreme reluctance of the manufacturers to make dimensions and valving rates available. I've had an AE86 that was fitted with a Koni suspension kit... springs and inserts/shocks selected and supplied boxed by Koni. The springs were lower and...

Re: KONI Sports shocks for the AE86...

Thanks Andrew. Since I'm running 3 kg/mm springs at the moment, and probably
won't ever go higher than 4 kg/mm, that sounds good. I was more concerned that
they might be a too stiff for my car.

i dont think thats the right TB. Im going to take a look at mine now. I swear that hole is supposed to be on the other side of the the throttle body for the crank case vent or EGR. KONI Sports shocks for the AE86...

I have recently picked up some 8641-1146S top adjustable AE92 inserts for the front, and now I am looking for some short stroke Koni shocks for the rear. Currently I have the Camaro AGX and they bolted right in with no modifications, but I read that the Koni 8041-1186S from a 99 Mustang might be a b...
