Re: TVIS inlet
I see no huge challenge in removing the inner walls for each cylinder - remove plemum, remove a 1" section from the back side(@ outer radii) of the runners - remove center divider/port smooth, weld up back side and weld plenum. If done carefully you might be able to hide the welds and it'll app...

A TVIS manifold will be hardpressed to flow enough for 200hp - the passages in the downward section of the runners is too small - Extrude Home may be useful here. interesting series of photos..... https://a4.pbase.com/o6/01/187001/1/113940466.JXxzNar3.Mk1noobintakecut3.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/o6/0...

no clearance issues. I did fabricate the intake side of things - shortening a stock intake hose, and using the Ford Ranger airbox, with an added snorkel behind the headlamp. 1) Chamber shape/condition can either minimize, or exaggerate detonation. Anything "sharp" in the chamber will promote detonation
2) Squish gap - distance piston is away from head - tighter tends to minimize detonation

As far as an oil pan... you can use an oil pan from an AE95 All-Trac, unfortunately the 4AF that came in the all trac didn't use a windage tray https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,1989,corolla,1.6l+l4,1275173,engine,oil+pan,5562 https://www.rockauto.com/info/1046/ITOP06B__ra_p.jpg

just a thought.......
you might want to have a professional machine shop check, and set your bearing clearances. They have the equipment needed to set them.
As you mentioned you believe you were out of spec..........

As expected my engine build did not last long. It's time to salvage what's possible. More details coming tomorrow but for now I have one question. Is it possible to use a big port (ae86) head on a 7-rib (smallport, ae92) block? The block has what looks like an external oil return. The internal retu...

I have a 200hp+ capable smallport head that had been used with carbs. For some reason the builder decided to weld up the injection ports rather than plugging them. Any thoughts as to whether it might be salvagable to run with injectors again? If you can get the proper alignment, I see no reason the...

SOME bigports do develop a vacuum leak at the TVIS butterfly shaft bushings, additionally, a few of these cars also tend to have a slight knocking sound also related to the worn TVIS assembly

Hi. I have a Blacktop that is being fitted to an automatic trans from a ae86 rwd. Little tricky but flexplate is from MR2 for the 8 bolt crank. Could you point a tell a bit more about this comment: And as this will be running substantial boost, ARP studs will be used, so clearance is added so the studs can't interfere with oil flow Thx The oil feeds the head at #1 bolt on the exhaust side. Essentially when you use ARP studs, there is a pos...

I know it's tedious but in my opinion you would be best off to measure it yourself - if they did change the specs at one point who knows what version you have in hand. EDIT: as for the illustration it looks intended as an abstract and not to the actual degree as 8° ATDC isn't anywhere close to what...

I suppose that I was thinking of using a smallport engine, and a set of cams with an aftermarket intake manifold and exhaust/header. I'll venture an uneducated guess. A negative number for the exhaust valve closure, i.e. -8.0 BTDC. Perhaps a negative "before" degree reading equals "after"? PS: Are you keeping the fishing line weight or returning it to the client? The nomenclature is very strange to begin with...
