Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2
Its got TVIS, so its a bigport. Further disassembly needed for further id. Sounds like you got the skills to deal with this. I haven't worked with MR-2 aside from scanvenging some parts at junkyard so don't know MR2 specific hints. The engine you will want a good machine shop to deal with things you...

Re: streering wheel questions
Sounds like the rack might be worn, but check your tie rods. All my corollas have had worn ends, either outer and inner or both. You can detect this by leaving one wheel on ground, jack the other up, then grab wheel at sides and rock it feeling for play. You might as well grab wheel top and bottom a...

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
Thanks for the clarifications, I have been corrected and have learned more, I just hope it stays in my brain! As a matter of course I set the TPS before proceeding with rest of engine setup but it hadn't occurred to me that it affects the base timing. Makes sense. I thought when you jumper the conne...

Re: Things I should know about the FX16?
Gotcha'. I saw one fx16 in a junkyard, and now I can't remember if it was a gts, that had solid front discs, and I wondered if it was a production change. As light as the car is, I don't see why a solid disc would be detrimental, and it should be lighter. I think that might have been a regular FX? ...

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
That would be my assessment too, short the diagnostic connector and TPS doesn't matter. If with the diag shorted and your timing mark is still bouncing around, it's likely a problem with dizzy. Once I rebuilt one of my Dizzy's with new bearing and seals, my timing became rock solid. The TPS could af...

First one "shirinda heddo boruto", cylinder head bolts. Second one "konekutenngu roddo natto", connecting rod nut.
The other stuff would take me a while to translate since I don't know kanji, but I think this explains enough.

Re: wheel offset
Lesse if I remember right. Measure overall width of wheel, divide by two (get half of the measurement). Measure distance from inside edge of wheel to the mounting face. Subtract this measurement from the first number gives you the offset. I'm not sure if this will give you the correct sign though (p...

Re: Stonger driveline for FX16
Unfortunately our courses are pretty rough, grass cow pasture. This past event we had a total of four broken driveshafts! My worry is could get full custom shaft made with stronger materials, but then the transmission would not be able to handle it. The other thing I could do would be to modify my d...

Stonger driveline for FX16
Any ideas for a reasonable setup to get a stronger transmission and and shafts for a FX16 that is running rallycross. I just dumped a bunch of money and work into rebuilding a 20V ST and got it running in there, but sheared a CV shaft at last event. This is the third shaft I've snapped, and this one...

Dang, I just dropped almost that much to rebuild just the 20V in mine, and my body's quickly rusting now!
I actually prefer the FX16 to the GTS for the stuff I do, auto and rally-X. Good luck!

20V oil filter bracket o-rings
Anyone know where I can get the O-rings for the 20V oil filter mount? There's two of them. What have people done about this? I have my old 16v engine I could take parts from, but that one has the oil cooler lines, which are not recommended for the 20v.

Re: 20v silvertop....what's missing?
You're kind of missing a lot. The pistons are different for 20v, also I think oil and water galleries might not be exactly the same so I don't know if you could just plop the head on your block. You're missing the throttle bodies, fuel rail and injectors. You'll need wiring, although I think there a...

Re: cv axle shaft
In my opinion I've always found it more convenient to have the flange style axles than the solid ones, way easier to replace without having to take the axle out and lose fluid during the process with solid axles. And if you jiggled things just right, you could remove the CV shafts without undoing t...

Re: cv axle shaft
I recall the FX16 shafts misslisted in a lot of lookups. I think if you got the ones listed for a diesel it matched. The best way is to physically match what they have. The transaxle (transmission) actually fits all FWD Corollas of that era, the splined shaft with no bolted collar and the flange col...

Re: Replacement Washers on Headers
If you want to try to find a Toyota part that might work you could give the transmission drain/filler washer a try. It's a common thing to use the drain plug to block off the EGR so the washer should be the correct size. It'll be aluminum, hopefully that holds up to exhaust temps, I think it should.

I do however have the roof gutter rail rust and roof corner rust. And the hatchback and rear light cluster area rust. Came on pretty suddenly.

I sold my one FX that had operational A/C and spare compressor and parts so I don't recall what they were like. Bought the equipment and go! Read up on internet. Get together with friends and do a bunch of projects and learn as you go along. I wouldn't trust myself to do critical structural welds though. I know this is a month old, but let me add, replace your capacitors. I just went through the same thing. Last time I checked, my caps looked ok. Wanted to buy, the two metal reinforcing stays for SIlver Top intake manifold. People seem to run without them, so there must be some out there. I'm also missing the intake horns and one of the shouldered bolts that bolt the stack on. Really want to get these so I can run in next rallycross with it.
