Re: 7afe Oil Pump + 20v ?

I found a factory solution using 7afe late model carina. I bought it from amayama.com I'm running an 8 port FE head with machined out ports. I think squish area/valve n port angle should win over GE head. If only I could find some big cams for FE I can get you cams for the FE. I think my guy might ...

Re: Stock blue 16v 4ag with itbs? Anyone have any results?

If you want to get the most out of the motor you need to build the motor with your ultimate goal in mind. Build the bottom end to work with the stock cams and if you decide to upgrade cams your compression will be lower than optimal and you won't get the performance out of it you could have if you b...

Re: what 20v camshaft to use

I just had a long talk with TED components trying to get a recommendation on a cam and it reinforced my thought that your parts list is pretty light for your goals. Ideally it would be a huge benefit to increase displacement. This is going to help spool, response and HP/PSI. You could add a little ...

Re: Stock blue 16v 4ag with itbs? Anyone have any results?

Like I said above Run the ITBS if you want but don't expect any big gains from them. Cams and compression will get you the biggest gains for the least money. Something like this cam, http://www.matrixgarage.com/products/mg-102-272-cam and around 11 to 11.5:1 depending on how much monitoring you will...

Re: Stock blue 16v 4ag with itbs? Anyone have any results?

If you are actually trying to make power I can help you with parts that will gain you a lot more power than ITBs ever will.
More compression and more cam will be the biggest affordable things you can do.

I'm sure this question has been asked but I've been looking and looking and cant seem to find a solid answer and I'm curious if there's any power gains just by doing this. I have itbs from my previous 20v, I spun a bearing, Im goint to rebuild a 4ag with the help of my buddy. He has a 16v blue top ...

The tension spec along with most other specs will be in the FSM. If you go with a mechanical tensioner then use a spec from the FSM of the mechanical tensioner.

Okay so the wideband is hooked up with a gauge so you can monitor AFRs right? Just want to make sure you don't do any tuning without a way to monitor the effects. That's not an issue until you get it started but thought for once you do. One thing I like to do when tuning cold start is hook the wideb...

Re: 4age ITB and Cam starting issue.

You really have about 3 options right now. 1. Either dive in the deep end and learn everything about your setup. 2. Pay someone else, likely a lot of money to do the same. 3. Buy a car that is closer to stock and modify it to meet your needs and learn along the way. If you are going to do 1 you will...

Re: Running a 20v st on cops

Most people experience idle issues with the batch fire setup. It seems as though higher RPMs change the relationship enough to not ignite the intake stroke. With that said, personally I would not run batch fire COP. It can cause idle and low RPM issues and definitely runs the COPs well outside their...

I just found out Quaife is raising their prices significantly in February. Re: 4age 20v piston to valve question

Since you are not running stock cams or pistons we really can't be of any help. As allencr said the proper way to do this is to mock it up and check. You can put clay or something similar on the piston in a thin layer, then assemble and spin the motor around. Since with those cams you will likely be...

Re: How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?

If there were gains to be had from easy little tweaks Toyota would have done it. You might get tiny gains from fine tuning fuel and timing but again you would really need a wideband to do fuel properly and OEM ignition timing is going to be damn close to perfect for the stock motor.

Re: How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?

The biggest thing you could do is max your compression ratio. Something like 10.5:1 would net a notable gain. Or even a little higher with a mild cam. The next best thing would be switching to EFI. Other than that you would be looking at small gains here or there. If you got a wideband you could pro...

Your last post suggests that you don't do any of your own work on the car. The comment about your mechanic testing your TPS suggests that you trust your mechanic. If you don't generally work on your own cars and if you have a trusted mechanic then why are you trying to do their job for them? The FSM...

What have you done to diagnose? What have you tested?
Have you gone through all the diagnostics and troubleshooting in the FSM?
For example have you tested and adjusted the TPS?
Have you set timing with a timing light?
What else have you done?

The reason you have more clearance on the exhaust is already do to heat/expansion. Did the article mention anything about more valve to guide clearance, metal expands in all directions..... I'd set the clearances to the Tomei spec. I try to get to the spec, never under. What are you using to check,...
