does anyone run this ecu? for 4age 20v
Re: proefi 128
Not running it yet, but getting ready to order it once I get the specifics worked out.
They make a 128 system for the MR-2, which runs the same distributor cam signal as the 20v, so that system should run the engine just fine. The only thing that concerns me is that a cam driven crank signal can lead to spark scatter as the timing belt stretches and relaxes. So I'm working with a local tuner to develop a crank trigger and use the stock cam sensor with a universal system as the base.
Everything I've heard about the system has been good. The tuner I'm using loves it and prefers it over Haltech and very much over AEM. The only thing he says is that the tuning software is a little buggy and slow, but the system itself is rock solid. Apparently, there is a pretty steep learning curve with it, so make sure that your tuner is already familiar with it. That said, if you know your way around tuning software, it doesn't look that bad. I downloaded the software and everything seems pretty straightforward, but it has so much capability that it will take a while for you to sort through. The only thing that you cannot change is the crank trigger - it is built into the firmware of the system that you order, so if you do want to use a special crank trigger, make sure you order it that way.

Re: proefi 128
is it a big issue? because isn't that how the OEM ecu read it as well?
Re: proefi 128
I suppose it really depends on how precise you need your spark timing to be, and ultimately how much power you want to make. I'm super picky (and so is the guy tuning the car) so we decided it's worth the extra effort. For most street applications, the factory setup is just fine. But honestly, if you are running a street application, why spend the money on 128 anyway? A 48 or a Haltech should do the job for much less.

Re: proefi 128
The BT dizzy signal is the same as the 4AGZE dizzy signal. Not the same as the 4AGE signal.
Just thought I'd clarify as the dizzy signal has nothing to do with it being in an AW11.

Re: proefi 128
well besides the pricing, I figure the 128 is more future proof than 48.. With tons of capabilities ..
Re: proefi 128
are you sure on the firmware/ordering? my tuner said it doesn't matter, and he can flash it to whatever ignition setup you want..
Re: proefi 128
About the firmware - I've gotten different answers from different sources. Take a look for yourself - download the tuning software - it's free on the ProEFI website and look through it - there is nowhere to set up the crank trigger pattern (only the reference), so it must be loaded into the firmware. A licensed dealer from ProEFI can re-flash the firmware onto the system, but if you're like me and there isn't a dealer for over 100 miles, then you need to make sure you order the system correctly from the start. Even if you have a dealer close by, both of the dealers I talked to won't re-flash it for free, so I still think it's a good idea to order what you need - why buy something that you know you immediately have to change?

yeah, in my case the dealer is very close to home.. he didn't mention anything about it being locked in, and they claimed ignition setup is easily changeable on their end..
