Someone tried to break into my car.

Postby evanstewy » Tue Apr 02, 2013 8:40 am

Just wanted some opinions on how I should go about fixing the lock on my car.

Here's picture of the lock how it looks now. The door is kind of bent up but I think I should be able to hammer it back out.

I was just wondering if I can replace the lock with a new stock one that will work with my original key. Not sure if that is an option. Or should I just go with Solex locks? Would the soled lock have prevented this? I remember seeing Solex locks for sale on the old forum but I don't see them anymore.

Is there any other options?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that this happened.

I personally have keyless entry, so I felt that the locks were not needed. I dunno what you have, coupe or hatchback, but I shaved off the locks, painted them over and have a single solex lock in the hatch in case my keyless doesn't work or the battery dies. I can crawl in from the back if that were to happen. If you have a coupe, then you may not like this option.

In the years I've had the alarm installed and the locks shaved, I do not recall ever needing to crawl in through the back, even when my battery recently went kaput. I had even considered that the actuators would get stuck, but it never happened.

yes you can get a new lock cylinder. im not sure if they are still available or not. you will need to remove the passenger lock cylinder. it has the key code on it so it will match your key
