Forums are dead, and I dont really have time for them, but I decided to log my 20v swap anyway for old time's sake. (FB sucks :!: )

The plan is for a slight refresh:
- timing belt service
- new water/oil pumps
- prob check crank bearings
- some new seals
- some cleaning

Also adding goodies:
- haltec 750 ecu with cops
- 100mm stacks
- martelius group a manifold (50.1 mm outlet). wanted to keep my fuji legalis r which is the same size main pipe. should be interesting...

Also planning to re-seal my spare good t50 - while acquiring parts for the engine - to minimize down time when the actual swap takes place. Will prob have some questions relating to that when the time comes. New clutch, fork, and flywheel also.

Here's a little time line so far...

Auto trans. Figured there would be less chance it was beat on. Plus I searched for one that looked clean in pics... My friends and I were impressed with its cleanliness.

First post updated!

Figured out the hosting/image resizing. What a pita (makes me feel old). Many more steps than the old photobucket... Thanks to scalpel, oldskewltoy, and jondee86 for the assistance.

Also cleaned up thread so it didn't read like an image hosting how-to...

Nice!

I’m considering the Haltec & COPS on my BT20V.
Curious to hear how you get on.

Looking good.

Question I have is would you not get a better transmission? Like w58 or J160 etc? Just wondering because I am debating whether or not to rebuild my transmission vs just buying a better one.

So tempting to do a 20V but the money haha so I have to stick with stock for now

I dont mind the t50, and i have 2 that are problem free. Ive also never broke one, but I dont drift and the car doesnt really see track. With 4.77s the gearing was perfect on the mountain back roads when I was in SC - wouldnt have wanted a shorter 5th gear. However, interstate driving at 55 mph+ does suck on the PHX grid. I wish i could keep the same gearing on gears 1-4, and have a longer 5th, or an extra gear. I dont feel its worth investing the money rebuilding or changing the gears though. Its.not my daily so no big deal.

Not really interested in going through the hassle of a w58 or ji160. Plus i hate short ratio 6 speeds on the street. I had an impreza STI 4 years and all the shifting drove me nuts.

The swap has been a money pit so far, but Im doing a lot of stuff that isnt needed. Been wanting to do this for 8 years... finally!

As to your 5th gear... you might look for an Mfactory overdriven 5th gear/shaft. There are a few out there, just have to find someone selling.

Interesting that you are doing a Blacktop, as I currently have a client who I'm overhauling their Blacktop, doing some porting along the way. I'll be sharing in the next weeks or so...... OST-053

Speaking to the 6 speeds gear ratios.... I LOVE mine, wouldn't go back to a T50 in Surreptitious for anything.... the ratios are far better placed then a T50.... I'm running a 3.9 as my final drive instead of the 4.30.

I had an impreza STI 4 years and all the shifting drove me nuts.

I'd think the 4.77 + small tire + gutless 20V would suck even harder
...but you're describing two totally different uses tho
...so ya, prolly best to just live with the compromise, seeing as its only some toss-around shitbox

I could never see any sense in 6 speeds behind the robust broad torque of a boosted motor in a street car

^haha touche. The plot thickens... im also adding a light flywheel. (The main difference is that the STI was a daily.)

Also, short ratio 6 speed with 4.77 would prob suck. I agree that it would likely be nice with an appropriate r&p.

Had a v1 mfactory gear but never installed and ending up selling. Thought about grabbing a v2, even though its not that big of a difference in gearing overall, but im hesitant to invest in the t50.

Yeah I wouldn't invest in the t50 unless you really love them. I agree 6 speeds in these cars is the way to go. More shifting = more fun!
