JDM Trueno Light issue

Postby kazi » Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:19 pm

Hi all.

Got this imported about 2 weeks ago. its a 1985 Trueno all the way from the mother land!

Having an issue with the lights going up or down. doesn't appear to be any sound from the motor. 30a fuse is fine and the relay next to the left hand light is also fine. having trouble locating the other 2 relays in the car/under dash.

not sure if its a coincidence or not but the dash lights also don't work. still has the OEM radio fitted which lights up orange and so do the heater controls. lights still go on and off and will flash, just no movement.

anyone help me out?

You've gone over all the fuses and made sure they're all good? If that isn't it then I'd check the retractor relay and make sure that's fine. It might have something to do with it although I don't know where it would be on a JDM car. I've only got experience with my USDM 86

hi.

yes checked all the fuses and the retractor relays and checked the headlight motors today and all work as they should. also check the earth strap onto the all as i know these can be quite bad for braking but that is all on. seems like a continuity issue but can't be sure. where about is the retractor relay on the USDM models out of interest?

They put it right next to where the radiator sits on the driver side. It's a little black thing. The other one sits under the driver side steering column somewhere. It's a little blue colored box if I remember correctly. Although I'm not sure on exactly what it controls.

Found what I'm looking for. It's a blue box part number 166700-0181

Just have to find out its location in the car next.

That's the one. Should be a few up on eBay...or message the guy who just got his 86 totaled. If he still has it he might be able to grab it for you!

It's always good to have spares of this stuff. Might have to rebuild it later on if you can't find them.

I'm reading your post on my phone so apologies if I'm saying something you've checked but I believe you have a faulty light switch. The dash display illumination control is integrated into the head light switch so yes the fact that the dash lights don't turn on could be an indication. not to ask a dumb question but have you turned the illumination all the way to the right? it's like a dimmer switch built in. The soldering in the light switch is notorious for getting loose and creates bad contact...
