Small port head, bt 20v block.

Where can i put the oil drain on the intake side?
I have a 20v black top block, with oil squirters.
Do i need the intake side oil drain, or cap it?

recommend you run the drain... especially in a longitudinal layout.

you could put a bung in the oil pan... try to keep it higher then the oil level

I bought the head on a low comp 3 rib block, there was a fitting added to the oil pan to run the hose for the oil drain.

I was actually debating on getting the OEM fitting to the block and do a little Drill and tap.

buttt, the bung to the oil pan is much easier(cheaper option)

I'm guessing the low comp block has a square pan, while 20v pans have a notch... so you can't just reuse that square pan with the drain. I agree that I would run the drain. I have a 1997 4A-FE block that I was going to use for a 4A-GE build (need the notched oil pan area for my All-Trac transfer case) using a smallport head. I noticed that the FE block had a small, flat circular space right where the oil drain would be on a smallport 4A-GE. It's under the #4 cylinder freeze plug. Below is a pic, if it works:

I know that the 7A-FE block does not have this flat space. I can't remember if my All-Trac 4A-FE does or not (probably not). If you look inside the block behind this area, you will see that it is below the #4 cylinder wall.

pic didnt work, but my 20v block has the flat spot where the drain should be.

i believe the drain on the oil pan is a bolt on affair. I have not pulled that pan yet, so im not sure. Looks like some sort of plumbing fitting with a 90* elbow on it.

I have this set up blocked off the head with a cap i found at ace hardware, i used a bit of hondabond and tighen it up no leaks .

But now relooking at it , think its better to used high comp block also 1st thing you can use the oil drain pipe 2nd thing the 16v oil pan is Bigger n deeper 3rd high comp block has oil squirters also...

But i couldnt find one when i was rebuilding my motor so i used a 20v block
