starter circuit

Postby HaSarcasm » Wed May 23, 2018 9:06 am

in short, i bought a gts donor car that had a starting problem. it "fixed itself" so i just let it be. moved on to swap everything to the sr5 donee car but now when i finally finished. the car is having the same starting problem. Ill eventually figure this out but maybe somebody could shed some light so i can finally drive this car sooner rather than later

When i try to crank the engine all i hear inside the cabin are clicks assuming relays.

clutch switch works (doesnt do anything if i dont press the clutch in obviously)

starter works (jumped the starter to the battery and turned the car on)

tried a different starter relay still same problem

are there any specific volts required at the ignition switch?

ive looked at the wiring diagram and im thinking the problem is going to be in the ignition switch/ wiring

Have a look at this... viewtopic.php?t=13283

Pretty sure that plug is for a ground wire that fixes to the chassis low down
and quite near the starter. You should be able to find it in one of the pics in
the post I have linked.

EDIT: Got curious about this as it seems to come up fairly regularly, so I went
and had a look at my own car (euro spec but the starter hookup looks to be near
enough the same).

So the starter solenoid wire does have a separate "extension" piece. One end
has a female spade terminal that attaches to the male spade terminal on the
solenoid. The other end has half of the black plug that you are wondering about.
The other half of the black plug is attached to the engine harness and eventually
finds its way back to the key switch.

If you complete that solenoid circuit your car should start off the key :)
