Moto's AE86 Part 6

by Moto-P

Now it's been a while since the last update on my car...  Has it been put to rest?  Actually not, quite the opposite I'm pleased to say.  The car has seen many track events, autocrosses, and been to many meetings and gatherings.  This time I will concentrate on further process and knowledge on Freedom ECU (and general ECU tactics), cosmetic stuff, and racing and SOLO2 stuff.

It's now November of 2001 and beginning of a new autocross season for SCCA.  Though the AE86 is normally included in the FSP (F class, street prepared), my AE86 is not legal for that class due to the non-US spec engine.  So, I just run in Modified classes or simply time only (X) class.  In any case, participation is the important thing and you can always try to compare times with others regardless of points to judge for yourself.

Here are some photographs from the November 27th Solo2 Event at Button Willow Raceway...an annual high speed autocross for Los Angeles region and only one here held not in a parking lot or air field but on an actual racetrack.

Ken Motonishi and Kenji Sakai (both talented Mazda Miata MX5 drivers who just love to give AE86 a hard challenge, to which we battle hard...)  Miata being in CSP a different, faster category but still a great comparison with super AE's.
