Re: cannot get Link AtomX tach output to work with factory cluster

Just to be clear, the simple solution outlined above won't work with a dedicated tacho output that produces a 5 or 12V square wave. If that is how your tacho output works you will need to see if you can program a spare aux output to behave as a tacho and pulling the 12V supply to ground at the engin...

Re: cannot get Link AtomX tach output to work with factory cluster

If your ECU has a tacho output that switches 12V to ground you can produce a voltage spike suitable for driving an OEM AE86 ANALOG tacho with a small relay coil. That's easy :) What is difficult is knowing what kind of input signal (voltage/frequency) your DIGITAL dash requires. If the digital dash ...

Re: opinions on my efi journy

Have you tried locking the timing in the ECU to see if that calms things down ? You presently have two items that are capable of changing the timing with rpm... the MSD (programmable timing curve) and the ECU (ignition map). If both are active then your timing will jump around. Cheers... jondee86

Re: Question on Hall Effect Sensor & Dizzy

A trigger wheel on the crank produces a higher quality rpm (Ne) signal which contributes to smoother engine running. There are a few different ways of getting a reset signal such as fitting a sensor into the cam cover to read directly off a cam lobe, but using the distributor to get a signal will ge...

Re: Shock Dyno Data Anyone?

Here is a scan of the same page from a later TRD price list... https://imgur.com/yAg4mIK It adds a bit more information in the way of OEM spring rates. I have always assumed that the GTV rates apply to those JDM AE86 models (Levin, Trueno etc) fitted with the 4AGE and 5-speed transmission. I imagine...

Re: Question on Hall Effect Sensor & Dizzy

So even though I have my trigger wheel and Hall effect sensor set up, it won’t work. You may be able to get it to work (if the LINK can be set up to run without a reset signal) but it would be a very basic setup. To get full sequential ignition and injection you need a reset (cam angle) signal that...

Re: Question on Hall Effect Sensor & Dizzy

Bit of an explanation here... https://motorsport-electronics.co.uk/onlinehelp/html/TriggeringSetupCrankCamSensors.html Short answer is that you need a Cam Angle Sensor if you want to run full sequential. If you just run a 36-1 crank sensor without a CAS then you will be limited to wasted spark ignit...

Clutch is not fully disengaging. Check the fluid level and check the clutch pedal adjustment. Tranny should be OK... what you have is normal when the clutch is dragging. If the clutch starts to bite when the pedal is barely off the floor, you need to adjust the pedal higher so that the clutch doesn'...

2) my brake pedal randomly just went soft? If it goes soft and stays soft then you are likely low on fluid and have some air in the system... check the reservoir, refill and bleed the brakes. If it goes soft but you can get some braking back by "pumping the pedal", then you likely have a ...

My buddy told me that there is also a seal that is on the end of the driveshaft where it connects to the transmission, is that true? could it be that leaking?? 1) I noticed a small leak from transmission area and when I have the car jacked up in the front, it'll leak even faster. Where are common leaks? If oil is dripping from the front bottom edge of the bellhousing then it could come from the rear crank seal or from the gearbox input shaft seal. If it l...

Re: help a n00b build a 1.8L 4age?

Obviously the Poncams would give me more "power". Nearly 240hp at the crank sounds good on paper, but it peaks at 9k. This car isn't some N2 spec time-attack monster, nor will I be hitting the rev limiter 24/7 drifting the thing, so i'll never even see that 240hp. If anything, it will dri...

Re: Need to figure out wiring for 22R/5M ignitor to use on my 16V 4AGE

This may take a bit of untangling :) To sort this out (if it can be sorted) we need to identify the type of distributor and type of ECU as Toyota had several different types. So... 1. Going by the type of coil-igniter you have, it may have worked with a distributor containing a single trigger wheel ...

Wasn't able to resist the urge.... had to install dual cone filters in place of the
factory airbox. Not sure that it adds much in the way of performance but it does
add a nice bit in induction growl when you have your foot up it :D

Yeah... oversize injectors don't make any more power :) If you are using Denso injectors
just check that you have the right clips. The high res injectors have a different clip to low
res injectors so you might need to order some new clips.

Re: opinions on my efi journy

Just a thought.... you can use low resistance injectors if you put resistors in line with them to limit the current draw. That's what the resistor pack on some versions of the 4AGE does. Your MicroSquirt® EFI controller will limit the injector current to ~5 Amps per driver. This may be too much for ...

Haven't heard much about ethanol problems here. For many years we had 91 and 95 RON to choose from with no ethanol added, and comparatively recently added 98 to the pumps.
