Fair amount of kerbing on the factory wheels, so looking to find a cleaner set. And some oik broke the factory remote key, and tried to repair it with superglue. Made a real mess and when the battery went flat it couldn't be opened. Kind of salvaged it to the point that I could get it open, and with...

This may be the first time that AI has proved useful... :D AI Overview For a standard AE86 4A-GE ignition system using the stock distributor and igniter, the ECU does not control dwell time directly. Instead, the Toyota igniter receives a trigger signal (IGT) from the ECU and manages the dwell time ...

Re: alternator is overcharging
Your alternator will have a 3-phase rectifier so usually six diodes, What you are looking for is a "spike" of higher voltage in the rectified output, caused by the breakdown of one of the diodes. Not all multimeters will be capable of detecting the spike, but if you have a digital meter yo...

That can happen when you have a bad diode and it lets some AC leak thru. Check to see
if you have any AC ripple at the battery terminals when the alternator is charging.

Yes... all true. When cars moved on from McPherson strut and straight axle suspension designs, stuff under the car did get more complicated and fragile. Picked up one of these nice little wagons for a DD. 2002 model with 100,000km (60,000miles) on the clock. JDM model, RWD and runs a N.A. 2JZ-GE with 5-speed auto. I haven't had time to check yet, but some of these came with a Torsen LSD. That would be a bonus if it has one. https://i.imgur.com/Pf0hT...

Once you get the engine running, does it function normally apart from not being able to hold an idle ?? So I'm dealing with an issue where I fire the car on then it keeps trying to turn over after i've let go of the key. Re: Rear springs
BC Racing AE86 BR Series Type RA apparently. No idea on compatibility with OEM springs.
However it looks like BC make adjustable perches for various vehicles. So it would be worth
giving them the ID/OD measurements of your springs and ask if they have a perch that would suit.

I've always been a fan of the "one car that can do it all" school of thought. And admired the guys who build the sleepers... the Wolves in Sheep's clothing type of thing. The ISF fulfills that description pretty well. I've pushed it hard on a track day and am happy with the way it performs...

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials
The 40's work well for the 4A-F. But the intake ports are maybe half the size of a bigport 4A-GE so there will be a noticable difference in air velocity there, and that's why I was wondering if 45's would be a better match. I have never played with twin-choke carbs myself, so I'm no sort of expert....

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials
Sizing carbs or throttle bodies is mostly dependent on what you intend to use the engine for, and what other mods have been made to the engine. Everything from 40's to 48's have been used on the bigport head, in cars ranging from near stock to fully built racecars. If you were happy with the 40mm So...

Re: 2UR-GSE 5-Liter QuadCam N.A. V8
AFAIK the gears are there to allow the car to meet EPA standards. On the ISF first gear would be useful if you wanted to pull a plough, gears 2 thru 6 are close ratios to keep the engine on the boil when having fun :) Gears 7 and 8 are both overdrive gears so that the car can return decent economy w...
