Re: AE86 Rough Start up

Cold start injector does not affect how fast the engine cranks. But if it is not working it will affect how long the engine has to crank at normal speed before it catches. If you have a timing light you could check the ignition timing while the engine is warmed up and idling. You should have around ...

Gave the "New 86" a run this weekend and it was four seconds faster than the old one. https://i.imgur.com/g1DZIoY.jpg Handles and brakes really well for a 1700kg lump, so still possible to have fun even if its not an AE. And great sound syctem too, so I could cruise home after the event wi...

Re: AE86 Rough Start up

Sorry... got my posts mixed up :? Is the battery getting weak... cranks slow until it catches ? Easy way to check is to jump start your car using another car with a good battery as a booster. If the engine starts easily without struggling then your battery needs load testing to see if it is still up...

Re: Knock sensor on 3 rib block

The factory spot on a smallport is high on the block, intake side, between cylinders 2 and 3. That is the best position but you should be able to find an unused 8mm tapped hole somewhere on the intake side if you use a "donut" type sensor. If you want to use an OEM Toyota sensor I'm pretty...

Getting back on topic... I have noticed in recent years that certain forums get quiet during the winter months. I read that in some countries it is usual for owners of "summer" cars to park them up and revert to using a more practical vehical as a daily in the snow and ice months. Maybe th...

If you don't have oil in the water or water in the oil, then either you have coolant leaking directly into the cylinders OR it's not coolant but oil that you are burning. If you have coolant leaking directly into a cylinder, it is very likely that you have a blown head gasket, and low compression on...

You also need a MSD tach adaptor Going by the diagram above it looks like the Microsquirt had a dedicated tacho output which I believe is a 12V square wave. With a bit of cunning and a couple of dollars worth of electrical components that should be able to generate a voltage spike signal for the fa...

also I CAN NOT find a small port fuel rail to save my life! I have a spare one here in New Zealand. They usually sell here for around NZ$100 and postage to the US will be around NZ$35. So if you get stuck NZ$135 = US$88 and it's yours in a couple of weeks for US$92 (including Paypal fees). Cheers.....

Re: opinions on my efi journy

Yes... the best thing that you can do is get a piece of paper and create a basic wiring diagram. Identify every input and output that will be connected to the ECU and where your power supply will be coming from. Something like this... http://www.useasydocs.com/details/ew3_hires.gif You will want to ...

Re: 20V Black top Fuel Injectors question

Might be cheaper to buy some of these and you will get the o-rings with the injectors. You will need to save the nose insulators from your existing injectors (rubber rings) that seal the tip of the injector to the inlet manifold. Refurbished items from China but don't let that put you off, they will...

Re: 20V Black top Fuel Injectors question

Might be worth checking if there is a business near you that can clean and flow test your injectors. Injectors don't usually crap out all at once, but they can get clogged up with dirt or old fuel if they have sat for a while. And if you are running a stock blacktop with a factory ECU, you don't wan...

There are some very good articles on the interweb on how to wire and setup your Microsqirt. OK... with that engine spec you definitely need full control over ignition timing. So looking at the Microsquirt spec sheet I see that it mentions... 4* logic level ignition outputs (4cyl COP, 8cyl wasted) The key words are "logic level" which means that it can be used to drive up to four ...

What ECU are you using.... OEM or aftermarket ?
Is the engine stock or highly modified ?

Stock engine + factory ECU + igniter + coil = all good.
Modified engine + Aftermarket ECU + coils = all good

Re: Koyo Radiator + stock fan

I believe that the KOYO radiator has lugs at the bottom and fixing points at the top to allow you to use the OEM fan shroud and viscous fan. However, as the KOYO is thicker than the OEM radiator, the shroud will sit a little closer to the engine so you would need to check just to make sure that ther...
