Re: Injector firing

https://i.imgur.com/4YlsdUk.jpg Seems that despite what the 4AGE manual says, both of these strategies may have been used with TVIS engines. AFAIK JDM and UK models only had a single ignition transistor, but USDM may have got two outputs, a 4-tooth reset trigger wheel and grouped injection. Cheers....

Re: What gear oil to use in T50 and Diff?

Just wondered if there is an issue with mixing synthetic with mineral oils (however small the quantity) for these applications? Good question as usual :) Given that manual transmission oils and differential oils are quite different and have different additive packages, I wouldn't mix those. But I d...

I used, liked, and recommend...
AMSOIL 5W 30 manual synchromesh transmission fluid for the gearbox, and
AMSOIL 75W-90 severe gear oil for the diff.

I'm gonna check out that thread jondee, as for the image from the FSM, I have looked at this in detail for quite a while but still find it unclear (due to the pins being different from what the FSM thinks there should be for a blacktop). Appreciate the help though. Actually... I just had a look at ...

Re: I have a built 7A motor. Need some advice

I want to rotate more but can not. Any ideas. Any one had this problem. You could try pulling the distributor and retarding (?) it one tooth. That should put you at the other end of the adjustment and allow you to dial in more advance. Can't say if that will sort the problem, but I remember doing i...

Re: Wanting to replace Kelforf 193-C Camshafts

Mechanically there is no problem. Just drop the new cams in, check the valve clearances, set the cam timing and you are good to go. Without going back through all your earlier posts, IIRC you packed this engine with a lot of high performance/race orientated parts, and chose long duration cams. There...

Re: Wanting to replace Kelforf 193-C Camshafts

Whilst l appreciate your post is about changing the cams it maybe possible to get closer to your requirements withcareful tuning of camshafts and ecu. Having less overlap at TDC will help idle, retard inlet and advance exhaust cams to get less overlap. Cold and hot starts are all about ecu calibrat...

Re: Good High tech 4AG info

Watched the last 3 episodes and have to admire the dedication of the characters. But I do find it odd that with an engine they are revving to 10,500rpm they didn't have two-stage rev limiter set on their ECU. Turbo engines keep making power and will eagerly over-rev given the chance. And high rpm is...

Re: 20v Blacktop oil temperature high with cooler

Good sleuthing :) Precision gauges that actually indicate the true temperature are usually sold as a factory calibrated matched pair (gauge plus sensor). As mentioned in that article, trying to match a sensor and a gauge from different manufacturers can give less than satisfactory results. In the sh...

Re: 20v Blacktop oil temperature high with cooler

Sounds like the oil temp is just floating as it would in an engine with no oil cooler. Did you change anything other than the sensor between the time the cooler worked normally and how it is working now ? For example, looking at this diagram it would seem that the cooler would not work if the hoses ...

Re: 20v Blacktop oil temperature high with cooler

If you are reading the oil temp close to where it leaves the block, then 100-110degC is optimum,
Under race conditions decent synthetic oil can handle 115-120degC for short periods, but you will
need to change your oil more often.

It's always a little bit sad to let a car go when you have put your heart and soul into it for years. Both of mine ended up in Australia so I don't even get to see them again. But I had my time with them and needed to move on. Always wanted a V8 but had no interest in a luxo-barge version, so had to...

Re: camshaft fitment

I believe that they are on the TVIS engines, so you could run two exhaust cams if you were short of an intake cam. The knock pin may be in the wrong place to use the back plate timing marks for the intake side, so you might have to set the intake side cam using a timing wheel and dial indicator. Che...

Re: Question on machining costs

What I have noticed is that if you get machining and assembly work done by a shop that builds race engines, the standard of work and the cost is higher than a shop that rebuilds ride-on mowers. There is more attention paid to measuring and setting tolerances, ensuring that all moving parts have adeq...

Ahhhh... modified intake VVT pulley. At the top it says the 296 cams will work OK without VVT, which is another way of saying they won't work nicely with the stock VVT pulley. TODA and others sell adjustable intake cam pulleys to eliminate the VVT altogether on high duration cams. Setting the cam ti...

I haven't really looked into this in any depth, but I believe that late model vehicles with factory fitted "smart" coils can detect if a cylinder is misfiring. It probably does this by monitoring the current drawn by the coil. And because the ECU knows the order in which the coils are firi...

Another thought that comes to mind. If the engine is in fact running rich rather than lean, is to check if the vacuum line running to the fuel pressure regulator has become split or been accidentally disconnected ? If it has, then the engine will run rich at idle but should run clean under high rpm ...

This is the original diagram... https://i.imgur.com/4YlsdUk.jpg The technical article that contains the diagram does not indicate where the MAP 4AGE belongs, but there is plenty of evidence that it sits in the Simultaneous category for ECU's with only one transistor. Sounds to me like your engine might be getting too much fuel rather than not enough. Black tailpipe indicates running rich. The AFM is factory calibrated and sealed. It is not meant to be user adjustable despite what the internet will tell you. If the AFM looks like it has been pried open then a pre...

The crankcase breather usually exits in front of the throttle body which would not work for idle control. Your modification would need to dump straight into the intake plenum after the throttle body. The volume of air required to maintain idle is quite small, so the crankcase vent tube should be OK....

I guess if l blocked a few ports l could do away with all of the standard cold start/idle gubbins too? Exactly.
