Re: Looking at a car.

I don't understand what the question is. Do you want to know what to look for as a buyer? Or do you have a question about the vin?

What sanctioning bodies are you running with? NASA doesn't have a weld in requirement, and I've done plenty of SCCA events with a bolt in.

I feel like mentioning how you use your car would be worthwhile to mention. A car that is getting tracked every other weekend should be using something other than a car that gets driven to a car show every three months.

Re: Visiting the USA

you plan on bringing a broken car from the UK to the USA to fix while on vacation and bring it back to the UK? are there no shops in the UK that can work on cars? the price on shipping alone would pay for another corolla. I think you missed that it says "fix," and not "fixed." I...

Re: 4AGE High Cruising RPM, Safe&Reliable or not?

A friend of mine had his AE sit and rot in a yard in LA for six years before he decided to give it to me. I flew down on a plane and drove it to Oceanside before turning back and driving it to Reno, which, all said was some where around 500-600 miles. Six year old oil, gas, tires, brakes, everything...

Re: Education and Car tuning, yeah a boring subject.

Interesting thread for sure. I think it's funny that you listed technicians and engineers at the same level. Yes they both have higher education, but the pay scales are vastly different. It seems that most cars you'll see in magazines are from young professionals with extra money to burn, or some on...

Re: OIL STARVATION

If you shim the oil pump for more pressure that means even less oil would be left in the pan. If the pump flows the same amount, but at a higher pressure, our already small reserve of oil will get sucked up into the motor. Have you looked into increasing the capacity of the pan? There is also a good...

Sorry my info isn't AE specific, but I've gone through quite a bit of brake info and setups with my Miata. When people mix and match pads it seems like they're working around a different issue. Have you taken measurements of your rotor or caliper temps front and rear? Even if it's only with one of t...

Well these other parts might help you understand why the rates are so high. 1. The car has an SS Works Watt's link. 2. It also has UEO STYLE Pro 4-link. 3. It is running 235 Dunlop slicks all around. 4. It also sports a pretty awesome GT wing. When i say it's racing use only, I'm not kidding  ...

Re: Jubiride Monocoque bar 3 point

Only thing that bar is going to do is prevent the rear firewall and where it bolts to the floor from getting closer together, the only gain in rigidity is provided by trying to crush a bar straight onto itself. As Jondee said, all mounting points are hinged, and if you were getting any deflection in...

Also, our cars, for the most part, aren't carbureted, and if you don't have some aftermarket engine management, there is little, if any adjustment you could make.

The Corolla is the fun project that doesn't need to be perfect. The car that makes me look silly by running around with a pyrometer is my Miata. It's been racking up the miles recently, I autocross, track, and instruct at both. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b210/supertropicalderek/093.jpg I also...
