Re: How fast have you driven your 86?

Approximately 125 on a long downhill with 195/50/15s. Front end got very light while doing so. With the new setup I'll have to see, will be more of an aero issue than gearing or power. I'm hoping for a minimum of 171 (with current 4.3 rear end), much higher should I change rear gears.

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Picked up a Borg Warner S366 for it (T4 .91 flange, marmon style outlet), and started figure out what I need to do to the intake for matchporting and proper flow. Also debating tube framing the rear end, and hacking out the front strut turrets and replacing them with double wishbones up front and d...

Re: Height adjustable rear spring seat options

If you're handy and don't mind taking a handful of measurements, most of the Datsun guys as well as a prominent supplier of parts for older Japanese tin (who will remain unnamed) just use tube clamps on the bottoms of the rear shocks as a mount for standard coilover conversion sleeves. Depending on ...

Re: Tire size questions.

I don't know what you guys are running for tires, but my 205s fit just fine (minimal to no stretch whatsoever) on my 8.5s. Hell, my 225/50s fit square on my 10s. Depends on the tire itself and it's construction, as there are variables between manufacturers. Personally, I'd use the 205s, especially s...

Re: New to 86's, Tire/Wheel Question(s), GTS Hatch

+15 offset means nothing, it's more about backspacing than anything else. I ran 15x6 +20 on mine and had no issues besides polishing the frame. You'll bump into the struts around 4.5" or so of backspacing, depending on whether or not you're running coilovers (CO has smaller diameter springs and...

Re: w50 ???

W50 isn't bad, but, like mentioned in the link, rare. W55 may be a better bet. It's the 5 speed box in nearly every toyota truck from 85 to 96 or so. More than strong enough and has very nearly the same ratios as the T50 if you're wanting to keep similar gearing. They're also cheap as chips (think 1...

Re: Tire size questions.

We've seen tires as large as 225/35-18 installed on AE86's. Offsets will much depend on fenders, alignments, and details. That's been stepped up Moto, 265/35/18 now on 10.5s, 255/35/17 up front. Largest I've seen so far, but lots of work done to the car so it's not applicable to 99.9% of the cars o...

Been looking into a lot of things as this year has gone by. Got preoccupied with another project (casting shibuichi jewelry for a friend's birthday gift, my god copper is weird to work with), getting back into the rolla build. Looking into 17s now, tires are extremely plentiful, and given the new bo...

Re: What Parts NEEDED in the AE86/4AG Market (3/29/2013)

Stainless is an alloy. True, perhaps I should've specified, I'm too used to being on other forums for casting and car stuff, I meant aluminum. The temp requirements alone drop the price significantly, and you can still make a very solid part if you use the right materials (alloy requires only a mod...

Re: What Parts NEEDED in the AE86/4AG Market (3/29/2013)

Im still trying to find a "GOOD" Iron Foundry to cast the Rear Caliper Parking Brake Cable Retainer Bracket. Want these to be Stainless Steal. I have my extra pair on my desk still. Casting stainless is a huge PITA due to the temps required. If it's just the cable retaining bracket you'd ...

Re: New ROTA Wheels - "DORI DORI"

I love the hate for "copied" wheel designs for some companies (Rota and a handful of others seemingly getting the brunt of the ire), but then the rabid support of other companies that have blatantly copied other's designs for years (SSR, Watanabe I'm looking at you two). Yes, they are not ...

Re: inline 4 vs inline 6

The 6 cylinder will also have a greater piston surface area. Are you comparing two engines in particular? Not necessarily. Like I said it completely depends on bore and stroke. Also don't forget piston design. Rod to stroke ratio will also play a factor (which alters deck height, affecting COG and ...

Nothing for a while (no garage, car is in storage), but I've been accumulating parts and designing new parts for it. By the time I get done it'll be less corolla, more something else. Nick, that's been a thought actually, biggest concern is additional weight on the outer skin, given the lack of reinforcement it'll have (tube framing the rear of the car, tired of fighting the floorpan for every change I want to make). I'm still scoping out options since I have plenty of time to bu...

Don't have the cash for a 350Z, plus there's a leg's length of reasons I wouldn't have one. And insofar as engines go, I'm covered. V8 geared like a 4age should make it shuffle well enough, if not, there's always cams and headwork to make it shuffle a bit more. LEASTNINJAEDITSEENBYMANKIND: On the si...

One word: Why? If you think you need to roll that wide get another car. I respond to that with why not? Does anyone know of any US based companies that make silly wide flares? I'm going to be in need of some in the near-ish future (approximately 6 months), and the sizes I'm running are a bit.... excessive. I've done my measurements, I'm going to need approximately 5.5" flares up front and 6.5&quo...
