Re: How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?
^ Hit it pretty good there. the biggest thing is not to use engine breaking a lot (i.e. off throttle in high RPMs). In a fuel injected car it can detect that and cut off or severely reduce the fuel supply. But with a carbureted car, off throttle will always deliver the same amount of fuel off thrott...

Re: best place to get a tune for a newly turbod 4age
If someone tells you they are only knowledgeable with one I wouldn't trust them to be knowledgeable at all. Just take the exact opposite of this advice and you should be fine. A tuner that specializes with one (possibly two) systems is smarter than any tuner saying that they can do all systems. A s...

Re: 4A-GTE -- for fuel efficiency?
It will reduce pumping losses on the intake and will add them in the exhaust. I like how you worded that. The way you state it is like all the energy saved on the intake stroke is used to spin the turbo. While I'm not arguing the fact it takes energy to spin the turbo, it does. But what i can say i...

Re: 4A-GTE -- for fuel efficiency?
You tell me to study lean burn technologies and using that argument pretty much proved me correct. Lean Burn is just keeping the throttle as open as possible to reduce pumping losses (remember this) and giving it very little fuel so it won't accelerate. Now instead of throttle position lets use a tu...

Re: 4A-GTE -- for fuel efficiency?
That doesn't work out. The throttle is used to limit the power the motor produces. If the motor makes 60 KW at your cruising RPM but it only takes 30 KW to maintain the speed then you use partial throttle to limit the motor to making 30 KW. If the turbo overcame that and you were making 0 PSIG afte...

Re: 4A-GTE -- for fuel efficiency?
I'm trying to understand this. Manifold pressure won't stay at 0 on it's own. Are you referring to observing a boost / vacuum gauge and altering driving habits to try and keep it near 0? Yeah you got what i was saying. I had it pictured in my head but if forget that people dont have access to that ...

Re: 4A-GTE -- for fuel efficiency?
Using a turbo can definitely give you great milage. I know a couple d15 hondas that get around 68mpgs with turbos and when you whack on it, it still makes 230hp. It's all on how YOU drive it. With turbos you preferably don't want run an intercooler if possible. Raising the intake temp helps the fuel...

Re: how to do 20valve fcr carb??
Yeah that will be better. Trying to start off with the FCR's will be difficult because you will have no one to help you because the jet sizes dont match up. Now on the other hand, if you got mikuni (PHH) side drafts and the corresponding manifold i would say go for it.

Re: how to do 20valve fcr carb??
If you have these kind of questions (because you should have the answer to most of them already) just stick with ITBs and FI. The money you would spend on FCRs alone (new= little more than 1k, used= maybe $800 if you're lucky) could buy a nice tune-able ECU and you would have a much more enjoyable c...

Pull your plugs and get a basic idea from that.
Also what Mallory pump do you have? and what size are your fuel lines. (I'm asking this because I'm running the same thing except different carbs)

Re: N/A Build! Need Assistance
But that sort of situation doesn't exist, (or if it does) shouldn't in my mind. You can't have a power graph without a torque graph plain a simple. So if you have the power you automatically have the the other. And when don't you do dyno pulls in a 1:1 gear ratio? Yes you still have a rear gear, but...

Re: N/A Build! Need Assistance
I imagine they specifically check torque because that is the factor that makes power along with RPM. Power (in general) is work per unit time, in this case Torque and RPM. So when checking the end result (power) it is better to check the components of it. More so for the fact that if you have to cha...

Re: N/A Build! Need Assistance
If it is the exact same, then why do they specifically say the check the torque? They are measuring the power curve yes, but to make sure the power curve is correct they are checking the torque.
And how do you know the engineers would say that? Are you a Ferrari engineer?

What ecu are you running? and is it running correctly (like running rich or not)? Because, that sounds exactly like a carburetor running rich. Quick off throttle and RPMs rise
