Re: WTB Power Steering Rack

No worries. ^_^ It's not black magic, but a bit of a lost art. The reason I mentioned the hydraulic guys is that theyll usually have the spray welding gear and lathe on hand to fix worn down shafts (or grab a different size of seals...) At some point somebody will give up and track down a cheap repl...

Solid call. Always seemed like even the coatings could do similar if folks didnt pay attention. I only even know this thanks to a friend that ran a national brake shop franchise for years. That said, good lord they broke out the OA torch for pretty much any excuse possible.... "It can't be tigh...

Re: WTB Power Steering Rack

Just rechecked rockauto, best you can do there us pay up front and schedule a rebuild through Cardone. I'd count and make a note of the threads showing on the tie rod ends, remove it, and find a local shop to rebuild it. If you can't find an automotive shop try asking around a hydraulic machine shop...

Re: Noise when turning

Could be damaged/missing clips and hardware forcing the pad into misalignment (or a really badly punched pad backing plate - relatively rare, but it does happen)... I agree on and am glad you checked the bearings. Something to keep an eye on is caliper wear. When the boots and seals start cracking, ...

Re: Exhaust has white smoke coming out and I dont know why...

If it doesn't burn off early while warming up and stay clean after, probably coolant. Synthetic oil burns a bit hazy at times, but coolant smells sickly sweet. Check the oil cap and dipstick, look for chocolate milk. With the car cold pull the radiator cap and look for the same. Youd see similar in ...

Different chassis, but I've got nothing but positives about Hawk HP Streets on my supra. Bit more aggressive on the rotor wear, but a ton of bite. Cant imagine you would need more than a decent stockish pad considering the capacity upgrade but they're a nice step between stock and full on race pads ...

Really doesn't take much to leave a film or residue though. Oil will try and coke at times before burning off

If it is a valve stem seal and you're on the east coast ( ), I've got the tool for the valve spring retainers.

Re: Dancing headlight issue

Sounds quite a bit like a broken trace somewhere on a circuit board/switch. Having taken mine apart and refreshed it, there are a lot of bits under tension to crack and vibrate. Odds are it'll eventually just stop switching. Wiring diagram in the service manual.may help trace the leads. Could very w...

Also, before I rebuilt my distributor on the 4a I had the usual leak. Only caught the scent of oil after high rpm/load to a quick stop. Otherwise the airflow was likely enough to miss it. That and synthetic not burning as pungent... Acted a bit like worn valve stem seals.

Looks almost like blow by getting past the seal on the EGR bolt, spraying the side of the head. Really unique area given the exhaust heat shield and where everything is. Simple to check the other side of the heat shield to see if there's burnt oil residue. How long did it take to show up? (Worth deg...

Every commodity ever. Buy out the market, jack up the price. Happens almost everywhere there's any form of "tax", be it supra, drift, 240, Porsche, viper, etc and an element of finite low supply. Saw it happening with front ends and tail lights here in the past few years, but at the lower ...

Really cool look into a platform I didnt know much of anything about.

Thanks a ton for documenting your journey with it. Makes for interesting reading. Always cool to see some of the early stages of engineering and how things branch out from there.

Joints are generally a parts catalogue away - just not the kind that are readily accessible or easy to read, Bump steer is pretty much just a semi-compicated math problem. Honestly forgot how tiny our racks are end to end. About 21.75" to the pivot points. Even na/NB miatas are 24". A Mustang II rack may be an option, but it would have to be shortened - and the rod ends figured out bin diving with calipers and tapes. They're also generally cheap and pl...

I was trying to go that route, but when you add any rack on rock auto, it either auto-discontinues it for you or if you manage to get it into your cart, it'll throw up a "this item is not currently available" when you try to go to payment. Pretty much the same for any rack (mr2 or ae86) o...

California tries to but they do it differently. In CA your headlight must be XX inches from ground level. I think that number is 21 inches but dont quote me on it.
