Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

No problem SgtRauksauff! Thanks for the tips. Also thanks jondee86 for chiming in. So I decided to go with BattleVersion's tension rod since they had a group buy. I begged and pleaded and they let me buy a set since they had an extra. That's on it's way here now. I also bought two MOOG inner tie rod...

Good god SgtRauksauff. Were you alright?

@Deuce Cam, I could start measuring and feeling up the parts for bentness. My friend says it seems to be just the tension rod. But like SgtRauksauff said, it could be very small tweaks.

Ah, so the vacuum tester I have is actually leaking a little bit. Maybe a false positive. I think the lower RPM was actually because the butterfly valves closing more on start up. I'll have to test this again. I drove to a new friend's house. I was asking around and he said he would take a look at m...

Thanks jondee86 for the tips! I'll practice them next time I battle a hill. SgtRauksauff, I just did a leak down test, and there is a leak within the brake booster. I'll replace it as soon as I order one. Here's how I tested it. I used one of those vacuum testing tools and taped with electric tape a...

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

If you have any looseness in your throttle linkages, or if the carpet or floor mat can get under your gas pedal, it can take a very firm push to get the pedal/throttle all the way open. Usually, you don't press that hard during normal driving, so the logged TPS % can show as less than 100%. I had t...

So interesting the ecu stuff. I only wish I knew what the hell you guys are talking about. Lol We're just talking about the ways how we can adjust the ECU to give the correct amount of fuel at a given time. In very simple terms, the ECU some different modes. Under harder acceleration, use fuel map ...

So the E6X can do the job, only the interface is a bit clunky by today's standards. My day job is writing software programs, and it saddens me deeply when I use the haltech software. Other than the antiquated UI design, which itself is very retro. It had bugs in the program too. There was a problem...

Also found this: A.9 Fuel Consumption Poor fuel consumption is a result of a too rich mixture. If the fuel consumption in traffic is poor but the highway consumption is good, then it could be the areas of the map used for accelerating that need to be leaned out. The throttle pump may also waste fuel...

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

Seems like modern ECUs can get you pretty close to a well tuned map without manually tuning it. It's a pretty good idea. I wonder why earlier ECUs didn't feature it. I suppose most people are going to maximize the tune anyways with an aftermarket ECU back then. Looking through the manual more: O2 Se...

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

Headlights look great. As far as the closed loop is concerned, you should find out what percentage the ECU actually is allowed to change up to. I have the sprint 500 and it allows up to 15%. Hooking it up is easy but you'll need a wideband O2 sensor. I am currenty running the innovate motorsports v...

They're actually very well done. I did notice that the driver side popup headlight assembly was definitely damaged before. Luckily I have a replacement assembly on standby.

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

As you have a high idle, you will need to try setting the fuel restore threshold 300-400rpm above your warm idle speed. Currently warm idle speed is 1500-1600, so about 2000rpm should be good for now then. You do not want the ECU to be making big percentage changes as this can create its own set of...

Now, to get 5deg difference between one side and the other, there would need to be a BIG difference in droop (and I don't think that this is the explanation). But if there was an assembly difference... different length inserts, inserts with different stroke, one insert with a bottom spacer and one ...

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

Figured out the retractor mechanism. When you pull on the belt to get it out it turns this gear within a clear plastic housing. The gear is stopped by a locking arm. This locking arm is controlled by a metal ball. To get the belt out, you have to make sure the gear isn't putting force on the locking...

T3 seat brackets came today. Overall quality is pretty good. I didn't think much of the AE86 and T3 cutouts in the brackets at first, but they look much better in person. Felt a little heavy at 9.6lbs (4.5kg) but then again the bottom bracket is substantially thick and the Corbeau seat bracket for S...
