Cylinder head bolts work like a charm too. Maybe a few spaces and viola.

Re: WTT: 14" w/new tires for 15" rims WTB: dash cover, jack/

So it's not just the height of the brakes that causes issues, but the width, huh? I may start looking for 14"s that I can live with just to save my new tires, unless I find some nice 15"s. How deep was the back spacing do you think? I'll look at the Konigs and begin comparing. I'm looking ...

WTT: 14" w/new tires for 15" rims WTB: dash cover, jack/tool

I'm on a slow mission to install some bigger front brakes, most likely an rx7 setup, but need some room. Anybody willing to trade (plus cash if needed) my 14" steelies with center caps with new tires(95%) for a set of 15" rims with tires that have at least 50-75%? Does anybody know of a re...

Welcome to the club.

Re: CEL Issues

Really just stellar reasoning you have there sir, I see this is not the community it once was. I'm not sure to whom that was directed, but it didn't seem to help. Have you gone about the recommended diagnostic steps per the repair manual? Checking your connections, power/voltage, grounds, etc. If y...

Re: How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?

Good stuff about driving habits. But none of you have found a gain with minor mechanical tweaks like I was wondering, huh? I'll find out soon enough it looks like with a little trial and error. Thanks for the input guys.

How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?

It might be a moot question because most car guys will just say "that's the way it is", or "who cares about fuel economy". But this is a nice little 4 banger with potential and I'm interested in how any of you got the best fuel economy out of your 4ac motors. 91 octane and advanc...

Re: AC Idler Pulley Advice

You might be able to source a compatible part from another Toyota. The trucks with 3vz and 5vz engine, the Prius 1nzfxe, use similar idler pulleys that might be near the same size. I'm sure some of the engines of the same era might have something. I'm not even sure what engine you have but looks a b...

Re: No heat. ..

Have you bled the cooling system properly? I prefer vacuum bleeding as it'll lessen the chance of an air pocket in the heater core. Check the heater hoses to make sure there's circulation to the heater core. Possible blockage in the core itself may be possible. Good luck.

Re: Wtb: EDITED -- door hinge, clutch boot, trans cross memb

Bump. Thanks again! I have yet to buy the clutch release bearing and hub assembly. If ordered new can anybody give me a heads up if it comes as an assembly or hub and bearing are separate? Do the bearings come with clips to hold onto the fork? What would a manual transmission cross member with mount...

Re: GTS LSD With a 4ac

Are you using the whole rear axle assembly or just going to try to fit an LSD into the sr5 housing? As far as I know, the drive shaft length is the same for the sr5 manual transmission and GTS manual transmission, shorter by 7/8" compared the the automatic. The diff flanges are different I beli...

I thought it'd be nice to have the shifter boot and door hinge.

Thanks to a member, I've acquired the fork, dust cover and shift retainer.

Just got mount and hinges thanks to more members. Thanks everybody!

Re: 4AC Idle Problems

Don't think anybody will read this, but small update. I hate the TVSV. Plain and simple. After trying 2 different ones I still get an incorrect and fluctuating vacuum signal to the AAP. So I plugged the hose to the AAP. It's only used for cold starts below 50C anyway. Passed smog, now need to fine t...

So far I'd like to keep it stock, maybe lower it with some good suspension parts, a brake upgrade then turn it into a daily.

Good thing I'm a tech at Toyota so this thing should be a piece a cake, right? Famous last words. :)

Thanks for the welcome guys!

New guy from SoCal

Hiya guys, new ae86 owner here. Picked one up recently for a fair price that had easily been sitting for 8 years and I'm on the route to getting her back on the road. Sadly she's just an sr5 coupe, but I like her. So far there are cool people here willing to share info and buy/sell some much needed ...

Re: 4AC Idle Problems

I recently had similar problems with a recent purchase of an '87 ae86 sr5. The idle would fluctuate 200-300rpm around the 1100rpm mark. After 3 or 4 cleanings, rebuilds, and cussing sessions I stepped back to square one and checked that all the vacuum hoses were EXACTLY where they were supposed to ...
