Jondee thanks for that factory AFM adjustment info. Mine has the seal broken. I will check the distance to the screw top. I suspect I'm running a bit rich.

Re: 1986 Toyota Corolla SR5 4AC hard time starting
Could be many reasons. Check your timing. Have you got a clean air cleaner element and new spark plugs? Could be a cracked vacuum line somewhere. How does it run once you are warmed up and going down the road?

Re: Silvertop ECU
I believe those two are interchangeable, the 71 is just newer. They need to be marked MT (manual transmission). I've read that the difference between the early and late st ecu's is that the later ones will support cooling fans but I have not tested this. If you do buy one be sure to open it up and c...

Blue I have a compressor that I pulled off of my Silvertop since it won't fit in my engine bay. It has a slightly different part number TV12EC 442500-2220. If you think it would work we can connect via private message and work something out. These part numbers are weird though, the Toyota diagram sh...

Sorry I was thinking you had the 20v engine. You are correct Battle Garage does not carry the parts you need. I would try Amazon. I believe these are the part numbers but not positive Cap 19101-16140 https://www.amazon.com/WVE-NTK-5D1151-Distributor-Cap/dp/B07DVWZS21/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=U...

Re: What's inside the 4AGE 16V TPS ??
Interesting, I have wondered what was in there. I also wonder what makes one different from another for various engines. Is it simply the bolt and throttle fitting? And when they go bad is it just wear of the wiper tracks? They seem to cost more than they should. Anyway thanks for getting us to blac...

Re: 4age and wet or cold weather
Hey your English is pretty good. Much better than my Finnish or Swedish. Are you running a distributor? If so open up the cap and check for moisture, also check the wire ports on top of the cap for moisture. You can also check the coil connections and make sure that it has a good ground/earth contac...

Correct alternator for Silvertop?
My alternator's voltage regulator is failing and will sometimes spike voltage up to 19 volts when it heats up so time for a new alternator. The part number of the original is 27060-16320 I believe and is a 70 amp. Problem is that no one in the states carries that one. Would it be ok to substitute an...

Re: Distributor Pickup Coil Question
Dave I used the Toyota part number (90919-02197) at Rockauto and came up with a Delphi coil (GN 10175) for $45. Amazon has a big selection also. The Toyota dealer wanted $140. I've got almost a hundred miles on it now, seems to be doing fine.

Re: Distributor Pickup Coil Question
Well my intermittent miss and tach floppieness turned out to be a bad ignition coil. It tested out of spec when hot and that did fit with the symptoms which only presented when the engine bay temps got hot enough. I put in a new coil today and have had two long drives with no issues.

Might be a bad Igniter. I believe it may change the dwell times at around 3k rpm right where you are seeing the miss- had a similar issue with a Mitsubishi igniter once. $30 used ones on eBay. 89621-12050

Evan sorry to hear that your mechanic would rather work on the same old crap over and over than learn something new. Anyway, it might be a long shot and too simple but open your ECU and check for leaking capacitors before you go any further.

Why such a small sump?
Just doing my "put it away for the season" oil change and I'm curious again why the 4age 20 valve has such a small oil sump. Around 3.2 liter depending on whether you have an oil cooler and the size oil filter you use. Does anyone know the engineering rational behind this.
