poltergeists in my car, HALP!
Okay, I blew my head gasket and after replacing it I could not get the car to run very well. I went buy the factory repair manual and set the timing to 10 degrees while in diagnostic mode and when i pulled the jumper it went to 17-18. now that was out of the way I tried a spare ignitor and checked t...

Re: Rough edges around combustion chambers
There are pics of the head gasket and the tool I used to clean the edge of the combustion Chambers. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/mazdaxxman/Mobile%20Uploads/received_3315911175256643_zps9qpjfi8q.jpeg These picks are all so amazing when you are disassembling a dashboard. http://i6.photobucke...

Re: Rough edges around combustion chambers
I used an o-ring pick to run around the edge, it did not have a sharp edge but it knocked off the burrs. Thank you everyone for the advice.

Rough edges around combustion chambers
I have noticed that the edges around the combustion Chambers are rough. my question is, are there any advantages to smoothing out the rough spots. I believe I heard it one point that rough edges like that can create hot spots within the chamber. I have the head off due to a blown head gasket. I have...

Re: Dirty dirty curse words. Water pump, and tvis woes.
I pulled the vacuum hose and tested the vsv valve. It wasn't holding pressure at all and I hooked the diaphragm directly to a vacuum source and it worked properly. I also tested the vsv plug for power and made sure it was getting voltage at the proper times.

Dirty dirty curse words. Water pump, and tvis woes.
Yesterday I installed a new timing belt and water pump. When I put it back together the pulley was hitting the timing belt cover, I guess the company sent me the wrong pump (shorter nose). Resting at the bottom of the timing belt cover was a bolt and that perfectly explains why only one edge of the ...

Yup, it acts exactly the same with it unplugged. I need to pull it and test the diaphragm.

Tvis cleaning/function
I have a stock 1985 Corolla gt-s and below 4500 rpm the engine is not reving like it used to before being in storage. I know the tvis opens the butterflies @ 4200 +/-.
The link for tvis in faq isn't working, so does any one have any advice on cleaning, repair, and testing?

She's putting in work, I found one more broken wire and I replace the cap and rotor made sure that all my grounds are good and fired her up again. She is running pretty good, now I have to get the timing belt changed and the exhaust sorted out.

What a bullshit waste of time this is... So the distributor cap and rotor arm go from being new to very worn out.... I can assure you I did not go out of my way to deceive you. If you keep it up I'm going to kiss you on the mouth. I replaced the wires and plugs on the hachi, and the wires, plugs ro...

Re: 1985 gt-s poor acceleration
I went and checked the belt, and there was too much deflection. When the symptoms started I was just below red line, so it very likely jumped timing. One question, what are the sensors on the front left of the block? Mine is gunked up so bad I just spotted them. Other than the water pump and tension...

Re: 1985 gt-s poor acceleration
AFAIK both those sensors have carbon ribbon potentiometers with a copper or brass wiper. They probably got a bit of moisture inside from sitting outside so long. I never tried this, but if you can open them up a spray with Electroclean (contact cleaner) might help. EDIT : Just pulled a TPS apart an...

Re: 1985 gt-s poor acceleration
I had to replace the fuel pump in this one as well, at least they put in a convenient drain plug. long term storage is the worst. I parked it because of the way it was running and now I am tracking down that problem with more stacked on top. I'm about to go test the pick up coils and see if they spe...

Re: 1985 gt-s poor acceleration
The cap and rotor are new. I took the tps apart and there was a good amount of debris on the ribbon. The spring wasn't working well either. The same thing happened with the maf when I took it apart. I tested both circuit boards and they were testing out properly. The contact arm was making contact m...

Also the Maf tested @ 200 ohm closed, 600 open. The specs call for 20-3000 ohm. My only question is why was this thing running at all?

1985 gt-s poor acceleration
So, I parked my car for the winter in 2009, in the spring it seemed to be running fine. I was having a spirited drive in May of the next year and it was running fine and all of a sudden it was bogging down from idle to around 4500rpm. I parked the car and kind of forgot about it for the 8 years. I d...

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
The starter solenoid on the AE86 gets 12V directly from the keyswitch. The wiring diagram for the 1985 does not show a clutch switch, but if you see one under the dash there should also be a "starter relay" somewhere. This relay only allows 12V from the keyswitch to reach the starter sole...

T-50 yoke size and sourcing
Does anyone know where I can source a transmission yoke for a 1985 GTS t50 transmission? I have been looking all over and I cannot seem to find a company that makes them. Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
All right, let's get started. First thing I noticed was a bunch of mouse crap, a few chewed wires and cut plug wires. After I got all of these items fixed I drained the gas, and tried toflushed the fuel system. Unfortunately there wasn't any fuel pressure. I dropped the tank and found the culprate. ...

1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
It all started in 2008, I was walking through a parking lot and spotted a 1985 ae86 and offered a woman cash on the spot. Fast forward to 2010, I had to park the car in a field for personal reasons and it was left there until 2018. I towed it from North Dakota back to Illinois and she is being broug...
