Re: help a n00b build a 1.8L 4age?
I can ask Loynings...... The end goal is a reliable HPDE weekend / backroads "touge" racer; plenty mid-range power with a decent torque curve. And still be able to drive to work on Monday with no problems. above is why I recommend going with something a bit less challenging**.... maybe BC ...

over coming "challenges"...... Essentially this is a 2 part job - part one, build the foundational parts(rear cover), part two - make a filler panel . So, the filler panel would need to be light, and strong, and easily shaped - that would hold its shape. https://gallery.ostportworks.com/al...

I wont go into a lecture....... A long time ago (mid 1970s, when I worked for VW) I learned the difference between "it will fit", and, "designed to fit THIS application". I've found I NEVER get the results others seem to achieve by taking short cuts - I do still test this on occa...

Re: OST-070: 7AGE for an N2 Levin
So... While this is going into an N2 replica, it is being fitted with timing covers to protect the timing belt, and to keep the cam seal retainers*. This requires some fabrication, as there never was a 7AGE, so the timing covers don't readily fit. Additionally, an idler is being added to the long si...

Thanks again Jondee86 and Oldeskewltoy. So, as i said in an earlier post, I need to keep the engine stock until the car has passed the individual vehicle approval test I have to put it through here in the UK. Due to the unique design of the car, on the exhaust side, i will have to fit a custom 4-2-...

Re: Ideal intake length for stock 4AGE 16v bigport?
Corrected a few errors and amended the figures to something more representative of the cams that you might end up with. Didn't really have much effect on the length calculated by the program. So I am inclined to think that the length is probably less important than making sure that the airflow path...

Love the details :cheer: As I am going to use a TVS supercharger 900 or 1320 on my build, with High Lift cams, I was commended to go with 38mm (37mm) Exhaust port. Re: Ideal intake length for stock 4AGE 16v bigport?
raising the compression in a 4AG pretty much requires $$ being spent. You will either need new pistons, or a set of adjustable timing pulleys, I'd actually recommend both. ** - One thing - there are 2 different rod/crank combinations that were in largeport 4AGEs. 1984 - mid 1987 3 rib blocks, got &q...

4. You mention that you have 272 degree cams in your 4AGE. I have a pair of HIS 272 degree, 8.1mm lift cams I'm going to put in the engine once the car is registered and was wondering how they might behave i.e. how smooth is the idle with yours, whats the power range and what rpm do you make peak p...

The Exhaust gasket you are using here, what specific model is it, and from what company? The gasket was a collaboration between myself, and SV3* (before they closed). Essentially it is a Blacktop gasket(35mm port exit), that fits both 16V and 20V heads. It also has slightly "adjusted"(.02...

I'll have to remember these mods for the 7A-GE I want to build. Speaking of oiling and mods, would it be worthwhile to smooth out or polish the inner section of the block behind where the oil filter sits? And to radius that hole where the oil flows out and into the filter? without a doubt.... radii...

What is the advantage of the MRP's wet sump, compared to a normal AE86 sump? 3 distinct advantages: 1) Volume... the MRP pan holds 5 quarts, the largest stock pan holds 4, and some 4AG pans holds only 3.5. 2) built in windage tray as well as baffles/trap doors to keep oil around the pick up. 3) ext...
