W55 transmission conversion
Hey guys, I have a W55 transmission that I want to put on my BT 20v 4age. The car is an AE86. Looking side by side at a T50 and a W55, the W55 appears to be shorter. I wanted to run the SQ Engineering adapter plate but not sure what shifter I would need. I noticed that the W58 has various shifters d...

Re: rear tire skipping under hard braking
So last night I jacked up the front of my car and turned the front wheels by hand and one side had noticeable drag and this was caused by the brake piston not returning correctly. The OP might want to try the same test before doing all the other stuff stated above ! will do, thank you. CloudStrife ...

Re: rear tire skipping under hard braking
When you say right hand side, are you referring to the passenger side?
I am currently running the factory brake proportion valve. Is there one that bolts in nicely?

Re: rear tire skipping under hard braking
If you suspect a side to side brake imbalance always check the non-working side, the side that it veers away from. Just to make sure I got this correct in my head. If i car turns to the left under braking, then I need to check the passenger side? Yes, I can lock the brakes in straight line hard bra...

Re: rear tire skipping under hard braking
Straight line braking only causes the steering wheel to turn to the left slightly. No wheels lock under braking in a straight line. Front wheels are at -3.5 camber and rear is around 0. I will try messing with rear strut settings. If I remember correctly, they were set to pretty stiff already but no...

rear tire skipping under hard braking
Hey Guys, I am having a problem with my AE86 GTS at the track when I do some very hard braking. The inside rear wheel will skip across the pavement when I start braking before a turn. I have also noticed that when I brake in general (even during cruising) that my steering wheel slightly turns to the...

WTB: Climate Control Assembly
Hey guys, Does anyone have an extra climate control assembly with/without the cables? Just to be clear, I am talking about the entire plastic assembly where all the cables attach to. Mine is broken beyond repair. I am open to any version but would prefer a version that has a the cutout for the AC bu...

Re: Ignition timing problem
Try not to get focused on the direction. Your not going to hurt anything if it doesnt run. Just turn it until it runs. You can use your ear to determine where the engine wants to be. Dont rely on the dimple under the oil cap. You need to take the cam cover off and verify the marks on the cam gears a...

Re: I think I broke my AE86
If the car is not overheating, compression test is good, and it is still smoking. Then there is something else wrong. It could be many things (worn out piston rings, old valve seals, etc). I can speculate all day about it but I would perform a compression test first before moving further. If it look...

Re: I think I broke my AE86
First do a compression test to verify that it is the head gasket before you start taking things apart... For a bad head gasket you will see the PSI on the cylinders be something like the following Cy1: 170psi Cy2: 140psi Cy3: 80psi Cy4: 140psi On a good head gasket it would look like this: Cy1: 170p...

I understand. Quick question. Assuming this is the correct way to depower a power steering rack: http://www.86garage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2822 1. Are there any steering rack spacer options for the power steering rack? Since the MR2 rack allows for more steering angle, if I swapped bac...

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion
If you are "sure" that the inner tie rod pivots for LH/RH are equal distance, [not clamped in AW-11 factory location] then you will have to adjust the elevation at each pivot point to get ends of the tie rods traveling thru the same arc. Can you elaborate on this? I am confused on "p...

Re: Ignition timing problem
The plugs could be fowled out. My friend had a 20v that would not start with correct timing. I took out the plugs and wire brushed them down. Then the motor started. In general, if the distributor is clocked almost completely to one side in order to get the engine to run. Then you are off a tooth. I...

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion
When shopping for a AE86 manual rack online, what information should you provide? Didnt manual racks sometimes come on 87 GTS/SR5 Models and thats it? When I use that info on RockAuto, I see FX16 FWD racks that are manual.. Does anyone know if those are compatable?

Re: idle hunting, 20v shenanigans
Keep following Jondee's recommendations. Only thing I have to add is the following: 1. Make sure your red/black vacuum switching valves are not reversed. Might be possible since you took things apart. 2. If the ecu does not throw a code when you unplug the ISCV, then you could potentially run with n...

Re: 4AGE 16v fwd to rwd
If you want to go with a 16v then here are some general thoughts for doing 16v fwd to SR5 16v rwd: There are quite a few different things you can do to get a fwd 16v 4age into a rwd AE86. I have seen so many different combinations get the job done. However, in general you will want to have the rwd u...

Re: Car won’t idle
Does the engine have an Air flow meter? Verify that it is grounded. I believe it has a square brown connector by the exhaust manifold/under the brake booster. If that is not plugged in, your car will start up but then die.
