Re: AC decompression diagnosis
Anyone have any experience working on the AC in a GTS? I've got a new, cheap drier, and I'm wondering if replacing that and the O rings might be enough to revive my system or if it'd be a good idea to just go ahead and replace the more expensive ($300) compressor.

The StockInteriors carpet came with padding glued on. Had to cut through it in a couple of places, which was not fun.

AC decompression diagnosis
My AC was blowing cold and working fine for 10 the years of light use I put it through (not much occasion in the Northwest aside from a couple months in summer). I recently did an electric fan conversion with the OEM temp sensor and was running my car in the driveway with the AC on full blast to get...

Re: AE86 Carpet
Tons. I got mine from http://www.stockinteriors.com/ They sent my color samples extremely quickly, and the carpet fit pretty well. Make sure you have a good sharp knife or hefty scissors to work with, measue many times. Also, I had to cut the floor air vents up, as they sell one-piece carpets. Kind ...

Re: electric fans?
I've got mine set up on the OEM thermoswitch, and it works extremely well. I have an aftermarket air intake, so I was able to use the old intake mounting position for my relay setup. Good idea to use a fuse regardless of your method. Don't tap battery power, get it from the battery. I burned out a 1...

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/Dave17777/ae86watertempedit_zps8b55e5bd.jpg This isn't a stock inlet, it's off of an AE92 or similar. The temperature sensor circled is a grounded connection that cuts off when the water reaches a certain temp. I believe that the AE86 temperature sensor is the ...

Re: The best 4-AC upgrades...
Most of these suggestions are really complicated for someone who clearly doesn't have the expertise or the time to tackle such a huge project. Swapping the carb will be simpler, more fun, give noticeable results quickly, AND (this is the important part) keep his car on the road, unlike 80% of the AE...

I really like that drawer-style holder, but I could never do without my radio. I think the big ashtray would make a nice, solid mount for a cup holder.

Re: SR5 swap help me!
Kindof a rough project for a first-timer... I'd rebuild that 4AC and upgrade the carbs / motor mounts / power steering to manual steering swap and hook up an electric fan. I just did a 4AGE rebuild as my first major project, and the idea of a swap is still a bit daunting.

I'd definitely get a big mug for long trips! I just put in new silver-blue carpet (blue two-tone in and out) and hardcore carpet cleaned my seats, so I'm paranoid about spilling anything.
Half of my reason for this post was to provoke people who think their cup holders are better into sharing ideas.

Re: The best AE86 cup holder. Ever.
It sits a bit too far back for me to hit it with my elbow. Not the best placement for drinking while driving, but i dont do that anyways. (I use it to hold drinks from the drive-through until I get where I'm going.) The OEM holder is alright as long as you don't use the console for anything else, I ...

I'm 6'2", and it's fine for me. There's a seat angle adjust (the round knob). Maybe your seat is up on some ridiculous spacers?

Judging from the grain of the photo and the horrible cut of that guy's suit, I'd say it's some Japanese company that made a few kits in the late 80's.

Re: Blue Top Head Removal
You have to use 12 point sockets on the 4age head bolts. http://www.extremetoolshack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/6-point-vs-12-point1.jpg I definitely had to remove the cams to get the bolts. The distributor gear of the exhaust cam gets in the way, if nothing else. Keep everything in order and se...

Re: RHD AE86 in the USA?
Aside from the rack (which I bet you could rebuild with a LHD rack rebuild kit), I can't think of a single part that would have to be flipped LHD and RHD. The whole steering column is just picked up and moved: ignition is still on the right, turn signal on the left. Of course, everything relating to...
