Re: charge light wont come on...

Had my charge light turn off / come on during a grocery run the other night. Coincidentally, I installed a cheap voltmeter into the hole near the ignition a week ago. New alternator at O'Reilly ($95, lifetime warranty), an hour in the driveway, and all's well.

Best use of an AE86 in a music video (even though they call it a Subaru):

Re: Pace setter Header

If you can find a factory braket with the hooks that normally goes on the forward side of the cat, you can modify it to fit the larger flanges on the Pace Setter or OBX header. Using that should raise the cat up closer to factory location. I bought a band clamp from Burns and tapped the Pace Setter...

Re: Can we talk about some LSD's

Just jacked my left rear and tried turning it while in-gear. It locked up like a pro, which surprised the heck out of me considering it's stock. Oregon life has been good to this car. Perhaps my rebuild can wait a while.

Did you do dry ice to get the deadening out? I considered removing mine when I did the carpet, but I didn't have the materials to repaint.

Re: Pace setter Header

I'm using Cusco mounts. Stiff as heck (loud in the cabin), but that sucker doesn't appear to shake at all anymore. Also, the engine is lower by 1cm, which I didn't think would make much of a difference, but noticeably changed the center of gravity of the car. Very cool. I guess changing them was pre...

4-1 is for high end right? I running hks sport exhaust right now I think 4-2-1 is better than 4-1 for it.. On my old car I was running the trd 4-1 manifold/downpipe, t3 test pipe, and hks sport cbe - definitely less power in the low and mid range compared to stock. I'm assuming the 4-1 design and l...

YES. AMAZING FIND. I'm amazed that the previous owner would junk such a clean GTS... Like they didn't get enough notes on the windshield asking to buy it in the last 15 years. How much did you end up paying for it? Junkyards around here have been PAYING $400-500 per car for even the worst piles of j...

the thermostat prevents over heating if the tstat cant controll the heat then the fans will kick on to help disapate the excess heat. in over cooling situations the ecu will richen the fuel ratio to create more heat to warm up the engine. in my case on the freeway when its cold and i am rolling 60 ...

Re: Pace setter Header

At least its better than the stock one right? like a little more torque? Where did you get the K&N intake? The stock manifold is pretty efficient, for being a heavy SOB prone to cracking after 25 years. Not sure if going from stock 4-2-1 to a 4-1 has had a positive (if any) effect on the torque...

Re: how do i tell if my corolla is a base model or sr5?

I have a 85 corolla sport DX and the vin is an ae85 but the chassis nubmer on the firewall is still an ae86, the sport DX has a non-folding rear seat, it has no rear sway bar, you have to use the key to open the gas door and the trunk, the sun visors have no mirrors in them, and the door panels are...

It was perhaps the easiest mod I've ever done, aside from putting in an LED dome light. Steering wheel off, 5 screws to get the dash black plastic bezel out, pop the wiring harnesses, 4 more screws and the cluster is out. If you get the correct LED bulbs (I used these for $10: http://www.amazon.com/...

Re: The best AE86 cup holder. Ever.

The beauty of the aluminum backing plate is that you don't have to drill any holes if you don't want to. With mine, I decided to drill three at the top, just to make sure drinks stay secure. The other three screws go through the hole where the ash tray used to be. You could just as easily do the thr...

Wikipedia mentions the Sport DX, but I've never seen or heard of it before... The "article" it cites doesn't even mention the DX. I can't find information on the DX anywhere.

Re: Intermittent dashboard dimmer

YES! Thank you! I was thinking that I might be able to fix the problem by bypassing the dimmer (since with LEDs I don't need it anyways), but from your writeup it looks like the problem is in the switch itself. This will save me a ton of time and headache!

The best AE86 cup holder. Ever.

I've solved the AE86 cup holder problem once and for all. Air-vent mounted 100-yen store "JDM" cup holders? Maybe if you're holding a Dixie cup, tofu boy. Inspired by the Toyota Sienna's seat-mounted cup-holders, I have long-sought a location to mount a flip-down beverage holster. Sure, yo...

From time to time my dash lights have been turning off on on me, but a well-placed engineer's tap to the headlight switch or surrounding area turns them back on. Yesterday, I took apart my dash to replace the back lights with some cheap LEDs (VERY nice results. Dash lights look better than ever.) Wh...

You'll be fine attaching the EGR as long as you leave all bolts loose, then tighten. Test-fitting your EGR pipe and then bending it a bit to fit will also help.

I should also mention that my car passed Oregon DEQ emissions testing with flying colors with the OBX header installed.

Re: Pace setter Header

Eh, the OBX fitment is alright. I had a little bit of trouble getting the big EGR banjo bolt in, and because of my lower-than-stock Cusco mounts it looked a bit too close to my steering rack u-joint. Once it was all bolted up it fit fine. I was doing the same research you are a few months ago, and I...

WTB in-channel window visor

I'm looking for in-channel snap-in window visors. (Not the adhesive stick-on type.) Short visors or replicas preferred (don't want to spend too much on these). Willing to buy LH side only, but would like a set. Thank you!
