Garage 4age Starlet Drifting - 4age at 9000rpm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWldbK9M8Rk This is why you build a 9000rpm N.A. 4AGE :D It's not for fetching groceries or picking the kids up from school. Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
Yeah... no argument that torque is nice :) But having spent a few years driving a stock AE86 in a lot of different situations, I only ever found the lack of torque to be noticeable for overtaking in 4th and 5th gears. And to be fair, expecting a N.A. 1.6 liter Corolla to be a torque monster is askin...

Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
I'm not in the business of criticizing anyone's engine build. It's a free world (well some parts are still kind of semi-free) and when I built my 16V I just did what suited my ideas and budget. OP has put a lot of time and cash into this build and it is a solid engine, but I'm guessing that since he...

Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
Don't go down that rabbit hole... the Brian Crower crank is a modern 4340 steel billet item made for racing, not some old school OEM crank made for a daily driver :) Journal overlap will not be an issue. Read the specs taken from the BC site... BC crankshafts are made from the finest, aerospace grad...

Re: Overheat problem on small port 4AGE
I can see coolant spill out when rev engine to 2-3k rpm, is that normal? If the engine is warmed up (thermostat open) with the radiator near full, you will see the coolant circulating in the top tank when you have the engine idling. This is normal. Rev the engine and the coolant level will "su...

Re: Carbed 4AGE dizzy issues
And if you can't find the Bosch igniter and coil at your local junkyard, there is another possibility... the venerable 4-pin HEI igniter that was widely used on a range of older carbed US cars, and some early EFI models. These are said to be a dime a dozen in the junkyard, and it should be easy to p...

Re: Carbed 4AGE dizzy issues
OP you are on the right track, except that you will need an igniter to fire the coil. Every time this particular ignition question comes up I think to myself that there has to be a simple solution. A bit of searching brings up one very simple "high energy" setup using these Bosch component...

Extrude honing is an interesting process... results (and opinions) will vary as the saying goes :) It really is a honing process designed to smooth, clean and polish surfaces rather than remove a lot of material. Although there are industrial applications where the workpiece is pressurised and the f...

Ha !!! I am so used to working with MAP sensored engines I forgot that you might have an AFM... my bad :( But good that you got it fixed. Your tech was right... those swing flap AFM's have a switch that has to operate when the engine cranks and starts to suck in some air. If the flap gets sticky and...

Re: Oil spraying from breather filter on oil catch can
Here is a video showing the "normal" amount of blowby you should expect from an idling smallport or bigport 4AGE engine in good condition... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZNlBJip518 Blowby increases with rpm, so if you have a a lot of blowby at idle you will likely have way too much at ...

Little bit of oil ??? I guess that is a little bit in Texas :D Looks like someone might have had an OOPS when filling the oil and spilled some. Re: TVIS inlet
I don't have any data but if I was using the adapter plate I would not be too concerned about any loss of flow due to the taper on one side of the port. If anything it may be helpful in promoting swirl in the combustion chamber and that is something that is said to give a better burn for improved ef...

Re: Silvertop loosing power while driving..
Those pressures are indicate a normal healthy fuel pressure. The rail pressure increases as you blip the throttle which is how it should be, and the return pressure goes down because more fuel is going into the engine and less back to the tank. Go ahead and replace the fuel pump and filter. I'd be s...

Re: Silvertop loosing power while driving..
Sounds to me like it running extremely lean... barely enough fuel to support combustion. You definitely want to try the fuel into a bottle test while it is in that condition. An engine needs very little fuel to idle, but once you open the throttle and put a bit of load on the engine the required fue...

If you have oil spitting out of the breather your catchcan is not working. The outlet can either be piped to the intake vacuum or vented to at...

Love your work allencr ... don't ever change :D I know there can be several different reasons for most intermittent running problems, but I figure checking and eliminating fuel supply as a cause is as good a place to start as any. It is not possible to upload a video (or pics) directly to this site. You need to upload to a hosting service such as Youtube (or Imgur for pics), and then post the link here. From the information I would say everything points to a fuel supply problem. Either your fuel pump is on the way out or you ...

Re: Silvertop loosing power while driving..
It certainly sounds like you have a fuel supply problem. So to clarify... 1. Before the problem the engine ran fine... normal power, no hesitation ? 2. Was there a gradual loss of power or did it just lose power completely ? 3. When it started again and you were driving, did the engine run normally ...

It is a big psychological barrier to overcome your normal conservative everyday braking habits whe...

Re: HELP: MSD/Mikuni 4AGE Setup
Basically, as I see it, if you want to run a simple MSD ignition only setup without any form of ECU, there are two separate matters to be resolved. Ignition timing is the first, and having a fixed ignition curve (advance vs rpm) is the easiest to implement. I've just been schooling myself on MSD pro...

Re: HELP: MSD/Mikuni 4AGE Setup
It seems to be very difficult to get accurate information as to how you make an MSD box work with a Toyota distributor. The 4AGE distributor has VR (reluctor) pickups inside and MSD instructions only talk about "magnetic" sensors. VR amd magnetic are not the same. VR outputs a weak variabl...

The Gen 6 Celica intake uses a second set of butterflies (out of the airflow) to change the tuned length of the intake. With the butterflies closed the lower rpm operation is improved. The changeover point is around 5000rpm. https://toyota.epcdata.ru/imgjp/B2/170083A.png This design has longer intak...
