Re: Rough edges around combustion chambers
Im with OST on this one. I wouldn't use a dremel either. You dont need/want to remove much material. Like you said, you just want to eliminate potential hot spots and it doesn't take a lot to remove those high points around the edges. If your dad's an ex machinist, tell him you just want to deburr t...

Re: Front suspension question
This actually law exists? This is worse than California, which I didn't believe was possible! Several parts of this sound super subjective as well. How is it conducted, by a random person? What's the pass/fail criteria, whatever 'random person' feels is acceptable at any given time? What if that per...

Re: Smog exemption???
I encourage everyone who is interested in this topic to read the actual laws for themselves. Understand what they actually say and how they say it. If youre a car enthusiast is California, this will only help you avoid paying unnecessary fines in the long run. Trust me, i bet ive paid more in fines ...

I believe the new exhaust law repeal was successful. Some of you have heard how loud my car is and you also know how many F#@%$ I give/gave. And I've heard that CHP actually has/uses DB meters to cite people for loud exhaust but your city police/sherriff do not (yet). A cops job is to protect and se...

Re: Smog exemption???
Unfortunately, you'd still get a ref ticket for removing the EGR even if you were smog exempt (and probably have to pay a hefty fined). The only difference is you would'nt have to worry about it to renew registration every other year but... The BAR has a service that helps people with older cars loc...

Re: Smog exemption???
I highly doubt California will ever change the exempt status to include anything post-1975 and here's why: In 1984, the Smog Check program began in California. Cars made in 1966 and later had to pass the idle test and visual inspection every 2 years. Then, in 1998, the laws were changed, which grant...

Re: HPI oil cooler instructions
You dont need instructions unless it has mounting hardware. Even then, it should have pictures. In general, inlet and outlet sides don't matter as much as fitting orientation. Avoid mounting it with the fittings below the core as it will likely cause only a portion of the cooler to work (gravity alw...

Re: Rebuilding/remanufacturing racks
Usually the tie rods are the only thing that need to be replaced unless it was submerged in water for a period of time. The "seal" you're referring is just a dust cover (you can replace that easily without rebuild if it bothers you). The only reason youd need to full rebuild is if the pini...

I'm not a shop (yet) but I can make you a harness if you're really interested. My Corolla is currently running an SDS standalone on a 16v HighComp with 20v ITBs. It's likely similar in operation but my guess is that the MSD parts are potted into place to prevent failure from vibration (hence the box shape with flying leads).

I used a Wedge bracket with Recaro siders for my Bride Stradia II (Bride brackets were special order with 8-week lead time).
My setup positions the seat in the lowest possible position. Im considering ordering the Bride bracket cuz it raises the seat about 1/2 inch (I'm short, lol).

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing
The odds are low, but the problem could actually be the crimp in jondee86's photo or pin/plug connectors. I had increase resistance at a brass crimp where several sensor wires tee'd into a common ground wire. That is why I commented on solidering these 30 year wire joints. You have to check every w...

The VSV should NOT hold pressure but should hold vacuum (either port). http://turbomr2.com/MR2/Reference/TVIS/TVIS-05.gif http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/Reference/TVIS/TVIS-06.gif Port E (actuator) is never actually sealed. I see many good suggestions have been made but you dont even acknowledge doing/trying any of them, or provide results. Since you're 'hopeless' with electrical (your words), chances are you're overlooking the problem, which likely has a very simple solution (like a loose ground connection). When trou...

I suggest making sure the VSV filter isn't obstructed, the acummulator tank isnt damaged (holds vacuum), and inspect all the vacuum lines to/from make sure they are secured properly (fit snug, not loose).

Get some Seafoam (or Motul if you're a baller) and draw it through the throttle body. If your TVIS butterflies are sticking, this should help free them up without having to take anything apart.
Also, Jondee had some good advice about checking the vacuum lines. Check your water pump post.

Re: Dirty dirty curse words. Water pump, and tvis woes.
Sounds like you're using a FWD pump with a RWD water pump pulley. NOTE: DO NOT use the mechanical fan with a FWD pump unless you feel like being stranded! RWD water pumps were designed to support the original mechanical cooling fan so they have a larger bearing, which makes them slightly longer than...
