Re: USDM AE86 TACH
Thanks guys! Always good help. I just hate my aftermarket rpm gauge and want to get my oem one working. So I'm assuming this msd adapter will work like the oem igniter would in terms of the rpm signal? Should be super simple to set up to my msd box

I DOOOO know that the gts rear end has a bunch of options for gear sets ( I have a 4.77 gear set lying ar...

Definitely do it then and document your findings. I'm sure a lot of people on this board would be interested in your progress with this build. I deffinatey will. ive built this motor a few times, each time was a different version. the only constant was it always had the twin carbs on it. so now im ...

Re: draw through turbo 4age!
the FPR makes sense if you hook it up to the manifold and can have it send more fuel to the carb under boost. Then you wouldn't need EFI and would just have to manually tune the carb and FPR. Here is a nice write up on how the boost reference FPR works. http://fuelab.com/11-boost-reference-fuel-pre...

Re: draw through turbo 4age!
Well first thing I would do would be to get an AFR gauge. Then from there you can see what your fuel requirements would be then tune the carb from there. Since you are not running efi I'd imagine you'd have to run the carbs rich. The problem would be when the turbo kicks in it would probably lean o...

Re: head work or bottom end?
Headwork! Just know the limitations of the bottom end. No sense in building a top end to destroy the bottom end. Typically, the bottom end can handle 9000rpm with the weak link being the oil pump. My current engine is running 8500rpm limiter with a totally stock bottom( yeah it bounces a lot and I ...

Re: head work or bottom end?
With the 272 cams I'd kick the limit to 8500. IF you were to go the other way, block, I'd say put the funds into a 7A block and build a 7AGE. Not as rev happy but the torque increase is worth it. If you were to go this direction a light flywheel and rods will help with the "sluggishness" ...

Re: 86 GTS Exhaust Header
In the market for a good exhaust header for my 86 GTS, anyone use OBX header does it clear the steering shaft. I hage an obx header and front pipe going to an full hks exhaust on my ae86 now and the header clears the shaft just fine never had anny issues with it. and for the money its not bad either

Re: head work or bottom end?
As mr2mk1hero wrote, by this time (after 25~30years of manufacture) it's really unthinkable to do work on them separately. But okay, for discussion purposes by either/or I would say Head!! Like, mild cams and their corresponding valve springs like lift up to ~8.1mm and total advertised dur. of 272d...

yea its a tough one because like you said its silly to go nuts on the head and have stock bottom end lol and vise versa! but I do agree about a nice revvy 4age that screams to 9000 rpm haha

so this is more just a conversation starter but would really like to know what you guys think! so IFFFFF you had to only chose one, which would you benefit from most? working the head ie. cams, cnc port and polish, valve springs and stuff like that. orrr working the block, ie. forged pistons, rods, ...

Re: advice on cam timing?!
Ideally you would know how far you can adjust before the valves hit the pistons so with that in mind... Generally, once armed with the knowledge as above the cam timing would be adjusted whilst the engine is on a dyno. What would I do ? Advance the inlet first (cam timing wheel held still, turn the...
