Re: AE86 Issues :(
... my fuel pump relay doesn't turn on automatically(I have to open the relay and hold down the copper plate for it to move, so at least i know it is getting power to it). In an AE86 the fuel pump does not prime when you turn the ignition ON, as it does in more modern cars. The Circuit Opening Rela...

Leaking injectors seals ? Leaking connection at fuel rail or
fuel filter ? Needs to get fixed, but should just be a case of
tightening up a connection, or replacing some copper washers
or o-rings.

Re: Measure your T50 shifter ball!
I've got one here... done about 100,000 miles and has a bit
of wear. Measures 13.93 in the sideways direction and 13.86
in the front and back direction. I'm guessing poking it into
gear puts more load on the ball than just moving sideways
in the gate.

I am sure that you checked the timing with TE1 and E1 shorted, so you could
try increasing the ignition advance by 2 or 3 degrees, and see if it improves.

I know you should adjust the AFM but it was untapped and messed with, so i seeing if anyone knows how many turns it should be set to? The spring part of the AFM is factory set and sealed. It is not supposed to be opened up. If yours has not been opened, leave it alone. If it has been messed with, a...

Re: Tach signal from COPs
This made me wonder if I could use the COP feed back signal to get an accurate reading. This (using the IGf) seems to be somewhat problematical. Since you have the "tach" outputs on your COP's you may be able to find a solution along the lines of this posting from another site... http://w...

Re: Tach signal from COPs
If you are trying to drive an AE86 factory tacho you will not be able to do it directly from any low level COP tacho output. The tacho needs a voltage spike in the order of >30V, and you will only get this by using the low level tacho output to drive a transistor that switches 12V to ground thru an ...

I'm putting this on the back burner again... just need to get a few other things sorted before I get into internal mods. But I have to say I am leaning towards custom pistons to up the comp ratio, rather than cutting the head. Is 12:1 too ambitious for a stock smallport head ? Am I likely to run int...

Re: Looking at these forged pistons...
... the simple facts are the 4AG head basically runs flat (flow) @ about 7.2 mm or so. To optimize the 193B's 9mm of lift you really need a good porting job. Good information. So would porting alone get be enough, or would I have to go to bigger valves ? As you say, bigger valves are a major step u...

This... http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/diag_AI3qNo.png ... seems to indicate that you are correct. The seal is shown as a separate part, and you could not install it unless the assembly came apart as shown. I guess one part presses into the other, and by some means holds the bearing captive. For probably a fifth or eighth that much you could make more power with a 4AGTE. Bazda from MRP has built a few 7AGTE's... I think he was making something like 360kW at the wheels at one time. If you have a bit of time to spare you can take a look at his build thread here... http://forums.toyspeed....

Basically, I have no problem with running an interference engine. And I would certainly look at crown and skirt coatings... lightweight pins and low tens...

I was cleaning up a set of the OEM top hats a while back, and never found any way of getting the thing apart. Since you would already have a solid 20V engine in place, I'd suggest that you investigate adding a small turbo to the 20V. Being a high compression engine, success relies on having very good control of fuel and ignition... and selecting a suitable turbo. This board member yoshimitsuspeed has had go...
