Re: Suspension upgrades that are a must.

For shocks, I've been running Tokiko Blues for about five years. If I swapped my uncut stock springs for lower Megan or TRD springs, would that put too much stress on the non-adjustable Blue shocks? My current thinking is that waiting and upgrading springs and shocks at the same time would be a bett...

Re: Newbie in OR

I've seen them go for about $2000-2500; especially hatchbacks. Running, add a thousand. You're going to love working on this car compared to your FWD Corolla. So much easier. If it IS a rust disaster, I wouldn't try to restore it unless you've got access to a good work space and the right tools for ...

Re: Suspension upgrades that are a must.

Um... a must for grocery runs and commutes? Track-only? Balling on a budget: Tokiko Blues on stock springs (don't cut them), a full bushing refresh, and maybe some strut braces.

HASport, I was so transfixed by the sight of that beauty of an engine that I didn't notice that your wheel wells have been cut out. Are you welding in room for more angle?

Re: Can we talk about some LSD's

I wouldn't trip out about the tires spinning opposite ways, I've had most OEM LSDs do that. Only like aftermarket diffs will spin both in the same direction. I don't think the OEM one has a lot of tension against the plates until you get on it and lock it up. Burn out test broseph. Straight line, d...

Re: Are there rare 1986 corolla Gt-s?

Sweet 86 tora and no Im not talking about bumpers but the overall cars in USDM. I know red 86 are the easiest to spot Ive seen a million of those in Cali. Oh, that one's not mine, I just have the same blue-tone hatch. My wheels for the last 9 years have been nasty dirty chrome abominations the prev...

Re: Automatic ae86

Don't rule out the possibility of making back a chunk of change on that automatic A42DL transmission, either. I remember a thread or two from the long-long-ago by people wanting to swap their T50 for an automatic. Many a time in stop-and-go traffic, I've wished for such a thing... briefly.

Also, it looks like your EGR is blocked, or one of the charcoal canisters needs to be changed. Not sure if that would spike your HC and CO so high.

IMO, really rare GT-S' would include these two color combinations Two-tone Light blue/Medium blue http://www.toyotareference.com/colors/corollasport/toyota_corollasport_84_2X5_01.jpg I love my blue on blue. I'm considering painting the door guards light blue for a more pronounced 2-tone. Can't brin...

Re: Upcoming Turbo Build.

My advice, as someone who has owned an AE86 for nearly ten years (not my "first" car, but the first car that was 100% mine), and who just completed a first-time engine build, would be to learn to walk before you run. A "simple" rebuild project has more than a few headaches involv...

No problem! I'm always pretty quick to jump to the worst-case scenarios when I hear / feel something different with my car. Sometimes the answer is extremely simple / harmless.

That's exactly what I'm doing with my differential (if I ever get my hands on a kouki donor to rebuild).

Re: Creaking/rattling when making 90* right turns

I noticed something similar recently after swapping my cracked stock exhaust manifold for a cheap OBX header; rattling coming from the back, mostly when I turned or went over a bump. Sounded like some junk in my trunk. Turns out, it was just my tailpipe hitting the tow hook.

Re: Can we talk about some LSD's

Your factory LSD is likely worn out. I'd say get a rebuild kit for your spare (3T has one that should get you in better-than-stock condition), swap it in and sell your worn out one.

Re: What things are considered a fanboy in the AE86 world

I'd "just" spend those 3G's making my 27-year-old car mechanically sound, rather than fussing about how it looks. To my mind, you don't get much more fanboy than Watanabes and JDM bumpers (it screams TOFU), regardless of paint scheme and zenki/kouki styling.
