Re: Lit'lphant - Toyota's Hemi V8

Yep, I saw the bolt holes and recognized the injecto holes. I was looking at the nice center mounting of the TB. Looked like a nice spot to build an adapter. I guess a lot of EFI manifolds would be easy to adapt a blower, with the upper mani/plenum removed. As for cyliner shift? Cylinder girdle. Wou...

Re: Lit'lphant - Toyota's Hemi V8

Manifold looks like a prime candidate for a blower! With the inlet in the center, and all those bolt bosses would make for a simple plate adapter. Could even mod the TB mount mound to make a big 'ol hole for an Eaton outlet. Could even get away with an M90 if all that was wanted was low to mid RPM. ...

Re: Starving for Fuel

Looking at the beginning of this post.

Does it run good until the fuel tank gets low?

Possibly, the fuel pump popped out of it's bracket or whoever got in the tank could have bent the bracket.

Just throwing it out there.

Re: Are there any “low profile” wheel bearing dust caps?

If you're going to cover them you could consider flatening the dust cap with a hammer. Not sure how far you can get with that, most axles protrude far enough that the cap doesn't leave much room under the cap. Pull a cap and check your axle length to see where you can go with it.

Re: WTB Big-Port High Comp Pistons

OR, you can just use a 42mm crank and rods with high comp pistons.

I am assuming you have the early big port engine. The big port 4AGE came with both the 40mm and 42mm cranks and rods. If you have the 42mm crank the you just need high comp pistons.

Re: what are people using for struts/inserts on the MR2 these days ??

there are several coilover sets available. I've kicked around with BC struts and currently have Konis and ground control springs. I liked the BCs, and the Koni/ground control set is good if they're built properly. Check out T3 (Techno Toy Tuning) for their modded struts. Currently have T3 camber pla...

Picked up a Tomei 258/8.15 cam, still looking for another. If anybody has a WEB 577 grind cam sitting around or an HKS 256/8.35 I'd most likely be interested.

Thanks OST, but I'm looking for at least one exhaust cam, used, for this stocker, until I can finish with this rebuild. Although that CAT grind looks interesting for a mild build.

Antbody got a 25X duration exhaust cam?? Would like 8.35 to 8.7 lift.
Can't remember who manufactures specs in this range, but I'm regretting letting them go.

Re: Budget build cheats.

Yes, good suggestion. Most overlooked mod is gages. Along with that fuel pressure regulator a good fuel pump will be a good addition. In the day, I used to upgrade the fuel pump with one from a car with a larger displacement engine. For my 22RE and 4AGEs I would put a Supra fuel pump. At the time it...

Re: Budget build cheats.

Depending on how far you want to go the e-manage can control A/F, timing, extra injector and even the T-vis. Gets a bit involved with the extra harnesses. Best thing is the ability to put it all back to stock when necessary. Great little piggyback.

Toluene, benzene, and MTBE are reduced to minimal or nothing here in Cali. Sulfur has been removed as much as possible as well. They use other chemicals deemed "safer". Between that and "air quality" the search for alternate fuels became so important. Hydrogen and Ethanol seemed ...

Re: Budget build cheats.

OBD2 cars, 1996 and later, are tested through the ECU. In Cali, they go from 2000 and newer. They still look under the hood here. If your car smokes, it fails.

As for the EGR. Be prepared to get one installed. Find out what your state will require.

Re: Budget build cheats.

The O2 sensor mod helps with smooting the signal from the O2 sensor. Mostly helps passing CA smog test. A cap and resistor in parallel, can be stashed in the ECU box. Second O2 sensor mod includes a battery and a voltage regulator circuit. Simple but more involved that most want. Allows control to o...

Re: Budget build cheats.

Another thing that works, if you can get away with it, Piggy back devices. The NA AFM ECU won't work with them though. Requires a swap to the MAP electronics. Can be done for less than the cost of a decent stand alone. I've done it with one of my MR2s. Swapped the electronics and added a Greddy e-ma...

Instead of messing with the AFM, a common mod that actually causes more problems than it's worth, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is better. At the minimum, the stock regulator is supposed to be adjustable through the vacuum port or fuel inlet. I haven't looked into it. There's a few things yo...

Cutting valve guides? Done it. Better to profile the guide to smooth flow around the valve stem. Smaller chokes do help with low end umph for sure, but have you thought about raising the port floor or extending dividers into the ports in a bigport 4age? For adjusting cam timing while keeping stock s...

What crazy things have you done to your 4AGE to get that edge over your competition in restricted mod or stock class racing?

First thing I always go for is the early, lighter 40mm rod bearing rotating assembly and lighten whatever flywheel I use. From there it just gets silly.

Re: Batch injection

Another downside to firing all the injectors at the same time is the fuel has more time per cylinder to condense on the port walls. I do believe the MAP ECUs fire once per revelution, twice per full cylinder cycle. Would be interesting to see if the transistors, #10 and #20 fire separately, one per ...

The Freedom ECU should be able to drive the injectors separately. A little wire work and a few keystrokes and you're in business. That is assuming you're using the programmable ECU.
