Re: Spark Plug

The center electrodes appear to be rounded on the ends, and that can cause misfiring under load. A spark will always jump more easily if there are clean, sharp edges on the electrode and ground strap. I'd say time for a new set, but the colour looks good if you do a lot of highway driving. Re: Engine getting really hot.

When my engine "warms" up, everything gets extremely hot to touch. Extremely hot is subjective. The cooling system should maintain a temperature of around 85 degC in a fully warmed up engine. The exhaust manifold will be quite a bit higher, depending on whether you have been driving or ju...

Re: Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

Only thing that is going to blow an 80A fusible link is a dead short on the connected cable. If you are not seeing a burned or smoking wire anywhere else, the most likely place to check is the alternator charge cable. If the cable is good, then there might be something loose inside the alternator th...

Re: AE92 conversion gone wrong

If you are planning to get your car up and running in supercharged form, I would make the call on whatever is going to be the easist package to complete. Why do I say this ? Because I bought a fully functional car and drove it 200 miles to get it home, and then started "improving" it. That...

Re: AE92 conversion gone wrong

Just in case you hadn't picked it up from your research, the coilpack GZE needs to have the matching igniter and ECU. Otherwise, you should be able to change it over to dissy and single coil and non-coilpack ECU... or best option, go aftermarket ECU, keep the CAS and coilpacks and run them in wasted...

If you unplug the wire , you should be able to check the end to end resistance with your meter set to Ohms. If you have some alligator clip test wires, set the meter up so you can watch the reading, and see if the initial reading changes after you push your momentart button a few times. The resistan...

Re: 4age volt problem

If you have 12V at one end of a wire, and 8V at the other end, you enough resistance to drop 4V when solenoid current is flowing. When there is no current flowing (wire unplugged) you will have the same voltage both ends. So somewhere between the battery post and the end of that red wire you have a ...

If your enthusiasm has not been blunted beyond repair, I would look around and see if you can find another GZE engine. That way you are gonna be able to salvage something from this mess. Trying to put a 3SGTE in there means starting over from scratch, with the possibility of ever driving the car rec...

Re: Low oil pressure

Well the gauge clearly went up when I took the hose off. So there must be an issue with that somehow. If the gauge went up, you have vacuum inside the engine. It can happen with a cut-n-shut intake manifold if the job is not done correctly. Put the hose back on and with the engine running, take the...

Hard to say if the #1 and #2 cylinders had plugs in them or not when the water was sitting in that end of the engine. But for sure that engine was pretty badly sludged, and I wouldn't invest any more cash in it without stripping the engine down for inspection. Once it is in parts, if you decide its ...

Re: electric fan operation when a/c is on?

Power only gets on the circuit when the relay that controls the A/C clutch closes and puts 12V down the wire. At all other times the A/C clutch and the wires in and out are at ground potential. So if test the wires to ground, you will get zero volts. You will only get 12V when the A/C relay is close...

Re: 4age Starter issues

My bad... I should have typed... use the existing starter solenoid wire (from the ignition switch) to trigger the relay. Its a bit of a kludge, but if the starter wire from the ignition switch is not delivering a strong 12V to the solenoid because of high resistance, adding the relay will reduce the...

Yes, and there are also limits to how much laydown (lean) you can use when mounting the engine, and the offset of the centerline of the crankshaft from the centerline of the chassis. Because the cars only turn one way, you can get some advantage from moving the C of G towards the inside of the track...

ISCV is connected but vacuum port is plugged

What does this mean ? You have the ISCV bolted to the engine and
connected to the harness, but the tube that lets the air into the
valve is plugged ?

Looks to me like you burned a lot of crap off those plugs !! But your
engine is not running rich with plugs that colour.

What fuel pressure does your gauge show at idle ?
Does the pressure drop when you give the engine a rev ?

Re: 4age Starter issues

Run a test wire directly from the battery positive, and touch it briefly to the starter solenoid terminal. A jumper cable works for this :) If the starter cranks, then you have an excessive voltage drop in the starter solenoid wire. One cure is to run a permanent wire directly from the battery posit...

Yes. it will run without any mods, although you might like to consider
upgrading your valve springs as a bit of insurance if you are putting

Re: Another 20v with idles problems

In theory, all the idle air should be entering the engine via the ISCV. And it sounds as if it is, because you could stall the engine by blocking the ISCV. You could try a fix used by some folk... inserting a plug with a fixed orifice in the ISCV entry air pipe. Disconnect the ISCV from the airbox a...
