Re: Ae86 20v bt warm up time?

Generally speaking, letting an engine idle to warm up is not a good idea. Better to get the engine started and start driving more or less straight away... unless the car is heavily iced up and you need some heat to help clear the windows. Obviously, when starting out with a cold engine you don't bea...

Re: map smallport 4age not starting / running rich

Could be a grounding issue. Did you double check that you have the
ECU grounds bolted down ? Those are the 3 or 4 brown wires that are
fixed to a single brass ring connector, and bolt down under the injector
harness at the rear of the head. Easy one to miss.

Re: map smallport 4age not starting / running rich

Hey... sounds like you are on to it now :) AFR's can be on the rich side when the engine first starts, as the ECU will put extra fuel in when the engine is cold. But anywhere in the 14-15-16 range on a fully warmed engine at idle is fine. Later when you get some load on the engine, they should drop ...

Re: map smallport 4age not starting / running rich

When the engine is running, can you rev it up normally with the throttle ? And if you rev it up, does it run smoothly or cough and fart ? If you raise the revs to (say) 3000 and hold there, what is the AFR ? Have you ever had the engine up to normal operating temperature ? The ignition advance jumps...

Re: map smallport 4age not starting / running rich

The 4AGE throttlebody has a heap of variations according to the market for which the car was built. Offhand I don't know what the letters stand for, but these are the ports you can expect to find in most of the 16V 4AGE variants... 1. One large port from inside the front of the TB to the back of the...

Jondee Do you have bigger cams? 272/268 running 100/100 lobe centres. MAP reading tapped off all four manifold runners with small accummulator and pulsation damper in the MAP sensor line. Reading is rock steady and fast responding. Running the ST ISCV feeding separately into each intake runner. I c...

Re: Fuel pressure too high at idle, causes?

What I did was buy an old 100 dia industrial vacuum gauge, and adapt the fitting to accept the same size hose as connects to the MAP sensor. Then I went to a garden centre and bought a small 3-way barbed "Tee" connector that fitted the hose. These fittings are usually found on garden irrig...

Re: map smallport 4age not starting / running rich

The idle air by-pass screw plus one of the little tubes on top of the throttlebody should pass all the air you need for idle. You may not even need the little tube if you open the idle air screw up. The engine requires surprisingly little air to idle, as you discovered when you opened up the brake b...

All good. Yusss... what I am trying to emulate is the fat midrange torque that you get with a large engine, but do it with a small engine and a turbo. I'm kind of over peak torque at 7000rpm and having to change down for every hill, even if its not much of a slope. I'm going to finish off the N/A bu...

Re: Fuel pressure too high at idle, causes?

AFAIK the 20V uses a standard 1:1 rate vacuum compensated FPR to maintain a constant pressure differential between the fuel rail and the inlet manifold. That is to say, with the engine off and the pump running, the rail pressure should be in the range of 34-40 psig. With the vacuum compensation hose...

Re: Turboing the 4AGE (rough draft)

So, while I am doing a bit of learning up on turbo selection, I'd like to understand if it is possible to size a turbo to an engine so that it becomes "self-limiting" at the top end. By this I mean, instead of relying on boost controllers and blowoff valves to stop runaway boost at redline...

Re: Stupid Question: Battery Tie Down

Batteries are made in a couple of different heights. Factory batteries were kind of tall and thin, and they often get replaced by a shorter but wider battery, which means the lugs are not at the right spacing, and the height will be wrong. You probably have to get a different size of battery, or giv...

2. From the picture you posted earlier of your coolant temp sensor, it looks like its broken. If it truly is broken, I would definitely replace that. Yup... sure looks broken, and being broken it won't be sending any messages to the ECU. So I'd be inclined to go with the Yoshi theory on this one :D...

OK... I think maybe the problem is just that your cold idle is a bit on the high side. There is an idle air bypass screw down the tube on the side of the throttlebody. You can see the top of the tube in the pic under the word "here". Get in there with a screwdriver, and turn the screw cloc...

Pretty sure it will be a manual antenna... should just telescope up and down when you push or pull on it.
