Re: WTB adjustable cam gears / pulleys

Cheap method is to elongate the knock pin hole. Done it. It works. But it's no where as good as a set of adjustable gears. Another way that is cheap is to drill indexed holes like the old TRD method. Indexing the holes requires a fair amount of attention and at least a degree wheel. The slotted pin ...

Yep, been there done that. Even tried using FIPG, but I haven't found anything to really do a good job. I did get lucky enough to find a good tube at the wrecking yard.

Re: 87 Corolla FX16

Is the intake piping actually cracked? If you need to replace it a simple and cheap method is with a couple of silicone couplings and aluminum piping. My example; http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac155/walinggamit/034_zps364fed60.jpg I used a 2 3/4" mandrel bend 45 and cut to fit. Couplings a...

Re: m2 spring review

You can cut the top off the rear strut body and weld a screwed top on from a donor strut. I did this with one of my FX16s. I used the body from an AW11 MR2 front strut for the rear struts. Make it work! Modify and adapt. Or just get a set of purpose built parts. Lots of coilover sets available out t...

Re: 87 Corolla FX16

Suspension upgrades? I have BC coilovers and Whiteline sway bars and complete bushings set. I like the way it handles this way! All those parts are a bit pricey, but well worth it! I'm in CA, so the engine mods are limited. A set of mild cams and raising the compression to a level that your area's f...

Re: 87 Corolla FX16

MR2 trans is one part that won't interchange, sorry, the shift lever is on the wrong side. Any FWD trans that bolts to an A series will work. As for the time involved? Take your time and be thorough and an afternoon should do it. As for the GZE, Look around for any writeup on that. I read one and I ...

Re: 87 Corolla FX16

I've had a few of these, currently an '87 GTS. I don't have a manual, but I found it easy to do the clutch by dropping the trans out the bottom. I borrowed a nice tool from a friend that supports the engine from above using the fender rails. You could use an engine hoist or floorjack to support the ...

Re: Need help with this 16v exhaust manifold issue

The manifold in the pic with the gasket is an intake for a GZ. I had an AE86 before and never found a header with an EO. So you are pretty well stuck with looking for a stock exhaust manifold. The manifold from a FWD won't fit, so make sure it's for a RWD. Good luck.

Re: Are there any performance chips available for the FX16?

I haven't found any "chips" for the USDM 4AGE models. The piggyback units won't work either, so don't waste your time and money on them. If you don't plan on doing a lot of work and keep the FX pretty much stock look into intake and exhaust mods they're the easiest things to do. Maybe play...

Re: ae92/2zz

I've seen the 2ZZ in mk1 MR2s, so the AE92 should be possible. The exhaust exits the opposite side of the engine so you'll need some heat shields on the firewall. The trans on the 2ZZ is the C series, so it might bolt to the stock crossmember. Axles may give you a bit of a headache. I think the S/C ...
