Re: Bad fuel pump?
Another little update. T-vis definitely does not open. I do not know why. Tried driving with the vacuum hose unplugged from the t-vis diaphragm. Low end felt a bit less responsive, not too bad honestly, but top end felt so much better. A very noticeable difference. Will do more testing here to figur...

Re: Bad fuel pump?
So I went to the garage today to take a better look. T-vis is not working. Reved the car up beyong 4000, there is zero movement. All my vacuum lines are connected properly. The little diapraghm on the throttle body is also not moving and not making contact with the little bolt. Its dead? I need a ne...

Re: Bad fuel pump?
Thanks for the responses guys! If the engine ran better overall in cold weather, and also runs OK when cold in the "warmish" temperatures, might not be fuel pump as cold engines/cold weather typically need MORE fuel so the pump would act up then. Have you looked at the ISC valve to make su...

Bad fuel pump?
Car was stalling occassionally a month or so ago. I found a bad ground. The bolt where the battery cables ground on the chassis was not completely bolted down. So I bolted it down and added another ground. That was a couple of days ago and the tempreature was till pretty cold. Car did not stall anym...

Re: Bluetop 16V + Poncams + Pistons = ?
About two years ago I started with a very similar build in mind. My engine is a later model bigport (redtop) and its in a aw11 and this being my first engine build ever. My build was pretty much based around the tomei poncams. I didn't really know why, they just sounded good. I think the advertising...

How do valve seats even get like this? Before I rebuilt I know my engine was sitting in the POs shed for 2 years without being started..., but when I took it apart and looked at the head the seats weren't like this at all. Was this caused a blown HG? I'm just curious.

Re: Mildy tuned 4a-ge bigport MPG
That sounds decent. Especially with spirited driving! I did a build for economy, 4AGE awhile back. My final combination was 10.7 comp(our mid grade fuel, 89) with the intake cam being a WEB camshaft grind 294, 8.2mm lift and 246* ad/220 @ .050" with an early 4AGE OEM cam on the exhaust. Actual...

Mildy tuned 4a-ge bigport MPG
So I did a little road trip recently and made a video out of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqu9_Ae2Cm8 The video is long, but what will probably be most interesting to this forum is that I used the opportunity to calculate the MPG of my mildly modded 4AGE: Here's what I have on the engine: Cam...

Not a smallport, someone asked that by mistake I believe. This is a 16v bigport.

A litle update on the distributors. I ordered one from the U.K. from Neil Jones and here's what I got: https://s28.postimg.org/thcex1k0p/DSC_9952.jpg Totally incompatible with mine right? If my research is right this is a map dizzy and has just one connector that doesn't fit any of mine. Here is my ...

Re: OST-042-01: The Dubai Deception
I just re-read this thread. Why did you put exhaust manifold gaskets on the exhaust side, I didn't see exhaust manifold gaskets on your other porting pics. I assume you matched the ports to the gasket in this case since these are not-so-mild cams and there will be more power, am I right?

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
That's good news, glad I bought adjustable ones
Let me try to wrap my head around this, to compensate for the slight retardation I get at the crank I should adjust the cam pulleys anti-clockwise to advance it?
Thank you jondee86 for all your responses, you are really helping me out here!

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
So I played around with it some more. Injectors are 2 ohm, resistor box in place. I am keeping it there obviously. Distributor is 4 wire. Don't know if the ecu wants 3 or 4 wire. I also re-did my timing belt. Here's a weird thing that happens. I align the cam and crank marks to tdc positions, make s...

The engine is a big port definitely, but its from an AE92. At least that's what toyodiy says. I know AE92 came both with the smallport and bigport in it?

Holy crap you might be onto something important there. I totally forgot about the injectors! Thank you! Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
However, it might be worth checking to see if the ECU requires the pickups wired individually (NE, G2, G, G1) or if they can have a common ground (G1, NE, G-). If the plug has been changed from 3-wire to 4-wire there could be some mystery ? I will double check but I think that the corolla distribut...

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
Thanks for the response jondee86! My car is a MR2, stupid of me not to mention that. Timing against the timing cover doesn't work because its impossible to see it in an MR2. I have made marks and bought the needle that is used for timing in an MR2, but it shows the same timing as the cam gear, aroun...

No, AFM is good its the original and goes with the original ECU I have.
AE92 and AW11 dizzy definitely not the same. Check toyodiy. At least that's the case on european vechicles.

Re: I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
The saga (read nightmare) continues. I finally managed to figure the main culprit of my poor engine performance. My timing belt skipped a tooth. Why? Because of the stupid spring that tensions the belt tensioner pulley. My belt skips when I set it up as per BGB relying on the spring. So what I did i...

I have a 4age frankenstein and its driving me crazy
After spending a few weeks trying to figure out why my engine is low on power and why my crank pulley seems like its bouncing when I point a timing light at, and why I have a bit of a misfire, and maybe a bit of pinging and just can't get the car running right I think I am finally onto something. I ...

Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark
Thanks for the tip s24a, I will take a peek at the ECU, although I don't suspect it yet. I think i actually finally figured out the culprit for the poor performance, it is the TPS after all. But magnets stick to the head. Doesn't that mean the porting residue is magnetic too. Its not pure aluminium but some alloy right? I did not wipe the bores with anything at all. So here's a bit of an update: Opened up the cam covers, checked the shims, all are nicely within spec. I expected that, but needed to make sure.
