Re: Turboing the 4AGE (rough draft)
Thanks for this topic. I'm still learning about turbos and building a 4A-GTE. I have most of my parts rounded up, but decided in the meantime to wait on the head & block rebuild and get my AE95 ready in other areas before dropping a built motor into it. Can't go tearing around corners with jelly...

Re: Powder coating parts - throttle body?
Interesting, I hadn't thought about that. I suppose it also rejects heat. Would this also benefit the intake manifold? Well, most of the heat the IM will get is through the head. I would need one of those polypropylene IM gaskets the Honda guys are able to pick up for their B series builds. Does cer...

Re: Crankshaft keyway PUSHED
Are these FUBAR'd keys due to no torquing the crank pulley bolt properly? Same thing happened to me when I didn't torque my del Sol's crank pulley bolt several years ago. One of the first semi-major (i.e. not an oil change) repairs I had done to one of my cars at that time, and I didn't follow the f...

yup, but my issues sold out Sean. you know if Jonas is making another printing of the Out Of Stock issues? If he did, I would still buy the magazine out of respect for having printed the article. I'm loving that there are options out there for those of us unlucky enough to have factory drum brakes....

I like that they call it a camshaft key on that site, since it's for a crankshaft. I would just get an OEM key. If I can dig up the one I got for my engine build, I can take some measurements.

Then the trick is to properly crimp fittings on each end, because cable lugs are not easy to crimp and crimp properly without the right tool$. What about soldering the wiring to the connectors? I'm still learning about car electrical stuff. I've had to replace a few connections on my engine harness...

Powder coating parts - throttle body?
I'm pretty sure the intake manifold can withstand being powder coated since an IM doesn't get hot enough to affect the coating. And it's basically a lump of aluminum, no moving parts to worry about (except the plastic T-VIS plate on a bigport IM, which would be melted off). But what about the thrott...

Re: Possible to convert SR5 rear axles to use disc brakes?
Thanks Morgan! I still have some questions even after reading the article, but I'll re-read it a few more times before posting them here. One thing is that I thought Wilwood made 4-piston calipers which could take e-brake cables as well as the hydro lines. Hmmm. And I'm thinking that the best thing ...

sorry for the delay guys, i keep forgetting to scan the pages and post. wrote myself a note to hopefully remember today. No worries, take your time. I'm pretty far off from actually working on this. Doing my research for now. I still need to read up on suspension and what I want to do (front = AE92...

Re: Are there different exhaust side starters?
My All-Trac's starter is under the intake manifold, for its E series gearbox. So the GZE MR2's starter is under the exhaust side? Seems odd that it would be since they also have an E series. Edit: never mind, I'm not thinking about the GZE's stock SC/intake setup. I suppose all that space is taken u...

Re: Possible to convert SR5 rear axles to use disc brakes?
:D Good to hear this, thanks. So that's all by using the SR5 axle shafts? Or do you still need GT-S axle shafts? That only leaves wondering about the parking brake cable and the prop valve. I suppose the only problem I may have is that the All-Trac's lugs are 4x100. AE86 has 4x114. Hmm... at least t...

Possible to convert SR5 rear axles to use disc brakes?
I've searched around the net trying to see if this has been done before, but I can't find anything. I suppose drum brakes aren't all that bad, but I'd prefer the easier maintenance of rear discs... but it's not like I will find a GT-S rear end very easily. So I'm wondering if anyone has ever kept th...

I'm grateful for you guys posting your dynos, for the reasons Angry4AG mentions above. I'm especially interested in seeing 16v smallport turbo builds... and what figures are seen around 3k-4k RPMs. If I were to build an N/A 4age, I would definitely start using the 20v, its just a better base. Re: Question about gaskets from overhaul gasket kit
Could 1 be the oil dipstick tube? It looks kind of small to be the water pump backing plate, at least comparing it to the valve stem seals. 2 & 4 do look like crush washers for the fuel hose banjo bolt or the cold start injector.

How was that accomplished? Intake cams become exhaust cams and vice-versa? How about the oiling system? I'm curious because I had asked a forum once about whether they thought it was possible to reverse-rotation a Honda B or D series. Basically it was a "no," or at least, not cheap or wort...

Re: ARP Head Studs for 4AGE 16V info
Would it make a difference if my smallport distributor came out of a Geo Prizm GSi instead of a Corolla GT-S? There is definitely no pin in my dizzy. I suppose, since I'm going standalone, that I could just use a bigport dizzy instead. But finding one with decent, uncracked wires... :| Here's a pic ...

Re: ARP Head Studs for 4AGE 16V info
I noticed the smallport dizzy has a longer end piece. Could I just cut off a small section, then grind down the rounded bit like shown above?
And on a related note, how do you remove the smallport dizzy's gear to change out the bearing & seals? There's no pin going through the smallport one.

Smallport harness connector identification help
So about a year ago I pulled what I could from a 1990 Geo Prizm GSi with a smallport 4A-GE . Smallports are rare in my area, in fact I haven't seen one in the past year, and I don't know anyone with one running in their car to get info from. The last thing I was trying to get was the wiring harness,...

Yeah, people talk about sand blasting their valve covers and I'm just like :o I've used aircraft stripper with great success, but that stuff is toxic.
