Re: Billet 4AGE Block...
It's in a speedway car and they only turn left when racing, so I guess keeping the C of G down and making more space available for mounting the charger came into it. The block is described as being "two-part" but I haven't seen a picture of the bottom end. Again, I would guess that the mai...

Romp on it 4AGE's love to rev... rip it thru the gears at every
chance and use engine braking as much as possible. You might
get lucky and find that the oil burning comes down with 10W-40.

Re: What is causing blue smoke on low rpm with full throttle
My bad... I missed the part where you said that the engine was honed as part of the re-build. In which case the full ring-bedding procedure should have applied. The engine should not be over-fueling as at lower rpm's the ECU runs closed loop with the O2 sensor. If the car is driving well without stu...

Re: What is causing blue smoke on low rpm with full throttle
Ahhh... I see what you mean. I think that vent hose goes back into the intake plenum on the ST. As I understand it, the 20V PCV system has that hose to vent excess crankcase gases, when the amount of fume being produced by the engine is in excess of the amount of fume being passed into the intake ma...

Hey Josh... welcome to Club4AG :) You picked a kind of tricky one for your first post !!! That info on the auto solenoids is pretty obscure, but I would go out on a limb and say that an auto trans problem most likely won't put the engine into limp home mode. Assuming you swapped the complete engine,...

Re: 4AGE Not Running Right
Sounds like it is running out of fuel.... filter or pump maybe ?
Put your foor down and it hits X rpm then stops pulling, but if
you lift your foot it comes back to life ? Fuel cuts earlier in the
high gears than it does in the low gears ?

Smallport fuel rail is different from the bigport because the injectors
are spaced differently. Only place to get them would be off someone
who was parting a smallport... try posting on the Parts forums.

AFAIK your car should not have a crankcase vent into the intake ?
The crankcase vents via the PCV to the common vacuum rail and
thus directly into the engine. Are you running the factory airbox ?

So, if I read this correctly, what you have is a random no start problem. To try and figure this out, we need to be clear if you have... (a) Random starter cranks but engine will not run, or... (b) Random dead starter that will not crank. In the case of (a) you need to whip out your multimeter and c...

Re: 20 Valve ST Help Again
I haven't done this particular conversion, but it looks like you have all the parts you need. You should get hold of the pinout diagrams for both the BT and the ST, so you can figure out how to wire the third (body harness) plug for the ECU. Here I am assuming that the plugs are coded differently be...

AE86 16V - Diagnostic Plug and FP Test Plug
On earlier years of the AE86 the diagnostic plug is a round, yellow two-pin female plug found hanging off the engine bay harness by the AFM. The other yellow "T-shaped" plug is the Fuel Pump test plug. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a287/yaffa99/ae86/engine/DSC00019.jpg http://i192.phot...

AE86 16V - Diagnostic Mode Explained...
The AE86 ECU has some basic OBD1 diagnostic ability, and can output codes to signal fault conditions on a number of the engines sensor systems. The codes can be extracted by putting the ECU into "Diagnostic Mode" and reading the flashing codes that are displayed on the Check Engine light. ...

Re: Another 20v with idles problems
There are a couple of things worth checking. It has been known for the dashpot (throttle opener) to come loose on its adjustment. And if it ends up too far forward, it can hold the throttles cracked open even if it is correctly hooked up to vacuum. You need to ensure that when it retracts on engine ...

Re: Need help from suspension guru'a
A 1/2" spacer at the top robs you of 1/2" of stroke. So in 99% of cases the spacer should go at the bottom. The only time a top spacer would be useful, would be if you wanted to shorten the stroke a fraction to help keep a loose spring captive. If you have compared stroke length between th...

Without digging into it, I can't see that a 1/2" spacer under
the insert will be a problem. So long as the suspension bottoms
out on the bumpstops or coil binds before the shock reaches
the end of its stroke... you are fine.

Wouldn't be a problem... at this stage you could just change to a
full synthetic in your favorite brand. I only suggested semi-synthetic
as I don't consider the extra cost of a full synthetic is justified. But
that is just me... if you can get a deal on full synth go for it

Headlight fuses only gets 12V when the headlight switch is ON. Charge fuse gets 12V when the ignition switch is ON. Check that you don't have a loose connection, frayed wire or corroded/melted fusible link at the battery positive connection. What you describe with random cutting out and then later s...

Re: What is causing blue smoke on low rpm with full throttle
Oil has to be coming past the rings or past the stem seals. If the valves were loose in the guides they can ruin the seals in a short time. If you have a bad oil control ring it can let oil into the cylinder without losing compression. And if you PCV is blocked, it can pressurize the sump and push o...

Re: What is causing blue smoke on low rpm with full throttle
Current thinking on engine breakin tends towards a short period of alternatively accelerating and closed throttle decelerating. Use steadily increasing throttle application, reaching full throttle to redline within the first 50-100km. With this approach, the breakin period is over inside of an hour....

It was a lot more faint at first start (kinda sounded like a small diesel engine) and now has grown into more of a knock over the past few days. I'd suggest that you check the condition of your timing belt tensioner. One time I had a tensioner go bad and to begin with it was just a tiny knock that ...

Don't want to be the one to burst your bubble, but you are heading for a world of pain, and at the end of it all... little or no gain at all :( BT ITB's are too big for anything less than a balls out race car, and you will struggle to get them running properly without a standalone ECU. Yes, there is...
