Re: notnilc20's 1986 ae86 Hatch build clean-up

If you do not have an inspection requirement then the engine will run OK without the EGR and most of the other emission controls. Your will need the O2 sensor, it's missing on the exhaust manifold. You will need a replacement or a resistor in the circuit to send the correct voltage to the ECU. You a...

I'm running almost the same set-up with the stock ECU. Slightly less lift, CR, and no TVIS. Try advancing the intake 3*. If you are willing to break into the engine, a thinner head gasket would also help. Dave W

If you go to the AEU86 forum, and search exhaust "a post probably 5 or 6 years old" there was a member that did an A-B comparsion dyno pull, and posted the documents that showed a switch to a 20V stock header on a big port. There was a 5 HP improvement with just the header switch and an ad...

Re: How did you improve your fuel economy on a 4ac?

About the only easy change is the exhaust system. Look at headers and low restriction pipes and muffler. A better exhaust will reduce pumping losts. If the exhaust is custom, get anti-revrsion in the primary header tubes. You will probably have to adjust timing because of the improved scavenging. Da...

Union bolt? Is that the bolt in the center of the plate that attaches it to the block, or the bango bolt that you need?

Yup!! another vote for Cometic gaskets, but I would add the Fel-Por two gasket set for the oil pan/splash tray. It's the best thing since sliced bread for sealing a 25-30 year old oil pan, Vs OEM type RTV sealant. Fel-Pro P/N OS 30510 A

Re: 4age head bold. HELP

I assume you mean studs holding the head on the engine block. Typically you just put two nuts on the stud threads and tighten them together. Then you can back them out just like a bolt. If that does not work you can get a stud removal tool. It's a cam design that tightens against the shank of the st...

Re: 4AG Won't Run/Dies Immediately

If it runs for a second then the fuel and igintion systems are probably good. If your ECU does not see any signal from the AFM at start up it will shut down the engine. Check the AFM connection and wires. Manually move the flap and verify a resistance change. Davew7

Re: T50 good for autocross??

Auto-xing using a bone stock t50, should not be a problem, if the engine is making less the 180 HP. The stock trans will easily handle that type of abuse. I typically only make one shift off the start line and then run the rest of the autocross in 2nd gear. Dave W

Re: Fuel starve

If the tank was full then you either have a restriction in the fuel system or you need a new fuel pump. Check your fuel lines, and filter for blockage. Re: Fuel starve

If you are willing to carry the extra Wt, then running with a full tank is about the only option. You may be able to design baffles that fit within the access hole around the pick up area of the tank? But it would be a tight fit! Re: Fuel starve

A 2nd in-line pump would not help. The problem is fuel pick up. You need baffles around the fuel pump pick-up. The GTS has a baffled tank to prevent this problem. An option is to put a lowered sump in the bottom of the current tank and extend the pump mounting bracket to pick up the fuel in the sump...

Yes, you should be able to pull the axle shaft out with a slide hammer as described. But after 30yrs, the axle to bearing contact could have a fair amount of rust locking it in. I had to actually heat the out side surface around the bearing area to extract the axle. Luckly I had already planned on r...

Looks like a lot of fuel on that plug. You need to lube the O-rings on the injector before installation. D...

Re: Brake pedal pressure mod

The reason for the 7* is because you will start sideloading the piston and seals in the master cylinder at greater angles. If you need a higher lever ratio, then I would suggest that you actually move the master cylinder up, so it aligns with the higher attachment hole on the pedal. Typically a rati...

I would try adjusting the TPS. But first mark the TPS and the throttle body so you can go back to the orignal TPS location. Adjust the TPS clock-wise 1 or 2mm and then try driving. If it improves you may have to adjust the TPS further. The screws holding the TPS to the TB is a real PITA to access. I...

I would loosen the 4 bolts retaining on the shift lever and move the lever assembly rearward, taking up all the clearance in bolts and the holes in assembly in that diection. See if that would give you enough travel to fully engage 3rd gear. The nylon bushing on the ball end of the lever also tends ...
