Re: How much was a ae86 new?

In the USA, with a regular batch of options (A/C, LSD, Sunroof) it was about $12,000 for an 86 GT-S from window stickers I've seen, in Canada my 86 GT-S Coupe (sunroof, no A/C, no power windows, no LSD) was $16,420.

The lower moulding is different on them. They don't clear it and are shaped slightly different below the hood area. You need to continue the clearance notch up the moulding about an inch for them to fit with the USDM glass/lower moulding.

3A-powered cars are AE85, these were only sold in Japan. 4A-powered cars are AE86, these were equipped with the 4A (not sold in Japan) and 4A-GE (sold in Japan and overseas). AE85/86's were produced from 05/1983 to 07/1987, model years 1984-1987 for North America. In North America the AE86 came in 3...

Re: DOT ? FOR GTS CALIPERS.,

DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 are compatible with your braking system, so any of them should work well. For normal street driving you probably don't need anything more than DOT 3. There are some racing fluids and the like that are DOT 4/5.1 that can handle much higher braking temperatures, however they tend to a...

Re: WTB: AE86 4A-GE Exhaust Manifold, Front Pipe and Bracket

Only early (05/83-07/84) Japanese manifolds don't have the provisions, however cars produced after 07/1984 started using the same manifolds that we did, and they just have a plug in the EGR port to block it off. It doesn't matter too much to me though as I am running a Japanese engine without EGR, s...

Can't make an offer without pictures unfortunately. I'm willing to pay for a good condition setup (crack-free manifold, non-rusty heatshields, not scraped on the ground). I mainly wanted to avoid having to pay for shipping from Japan, since they can be had over there, but we'll see I guess. It sound...

Yeah, there are a couple of 4A, one 4A-F and 2 4A-FE engine variations as well, not to mention other versions sold outside of North America.

Not as much interest in those engines though, to be honest.

The upper windshield moulding is readily available, the side ones are discontinued for North American-spec. Japanese ones are different and not a direct fit (I had to trim them to clear the bottom moulding), but if you want to try them you'd need to order them from overseas and have them shipped in....

Does it have any play/noise? It's usually noticeable when stopped if you jiggle/move the steering wheel.

Might be interested. Thanks!

Adding a bit of information to what was posted, 7-rib 16V blocks from from smallport-equipped engines had an external oil drain hose from the back of the head to the block on the RH rear of the engine, the heads are also obviously so equipped. AE86's in Japan came with the 4A-GE and an automatic transmission. They used the flexplate from the AW11 MR2 and AE82 Corolla FX16 (32101-17010). That said, I'm not sure if the AE86 SR5 torque converter will bolt right up to that flexplate or not. The AE86 A/T in Japan used a different torque conver...

Re: Different Variants of the 4-A Series

That's not entirely correct. For instance, the 7 rib bigport engine was put in AW11s from 1987-1989. That also doesn't cover the 4A-GZEs. The years are mostly correct, they just didn't include the AW11 with the Gen 2 listing. The production dates are not always accurate though, as they often kept u...

Re: 4age 20V Water pump seems not to line up??

ToyoDIY's part number search is iffy at best, you need to go to each application to verify it, and if you do, you'll see that 16100-19285 does in fact not fit any silvertops. (-9505 = Silvertop, 9505- = Blacktop) The part numbers haven't changed, not even to an updated part. The original part number...

Like was stated, the 20V used the same clutch as the later 16V's, so the correct clutch should be readily available in North America, you just need to make sure you have the 212mm flywheel and not the 200mm.

I'm not sure where you're looking on Toyodiy, but the part numbers are as follows:

16100-19245 - Silvertop Complete
16100-19285 - Blacktop Complete
16110-19125 - Silvertop without Rear Housing
16110-19195 - Blacktop without Rear Housing

As someone who's first car was an AE86, I say do it. If you want one, get one. They're easy to work on and parts aren't really that expensive or hard to find if you just want to have fun with it. They're not fast enough to get you into that much trouble.
