so i have an 87 fx16 gts and a 88 mr2 bothe blue tops and i want to put the 4age from the fx into the mr2. the fx is a rust bucket and the mr2 is super mint not one rust spot. the mr2 4age is running real rough but the 4age in the fx only has 101xxx so i want to pull it and put it in the mr2 and rebuild the one that comes out of the mr2 over the summer. so how hard is this swap? any info would be great thanks.

My FX has the engine from an MR2 in it! Bolted right up. The only possible difference would be the exhaust manifold. Your axles in the FX will be keepers as they are the same for the MR2. The ECUs are interchangeable. All the sensors are interchangeable. The trans won't go switch over without mods though.

The steering wheel is the same with the exception of the center pad, and the steering column cover is the same if you need them.

Are you sure its the engine? Compression test? It might be the sensors, every AFM I had was flaky.

well i pulled the plugs and found oil on the first two, the 3rd and 4th were dry and normal looking.
