I need help! real or fake trd headers?

Postby mster2_sc » Sat Dec 07, 2013 2:43 pm

This guy is selling trd headers for an aw11 mr2, butnhow do I tell if its real? He said trd never branded their logo on the headers and apparently were made from a different company not actually from trd, the seem legit to me but im a noob to the 4ag(z)e community. Can anyone give me details on how to tell if they're legit trd headers? Also hes asking $400 plus shipping ($65). Is that too steep? I'd post a picture of them but honestly idk how to yet!

SC on the left; N/A on the right....

If the header looks like one of these it is either TRD ar a copy of the TRD
header. I believe they were discontinued quite a while ago, so if it is in really
good condition... $400 doesn't sound too bad. If it is beat up and has been
repaired lots of times... keep looking :)

As stated the TRD headers have not been made in years, however, a company in the NW has been making very good clones of them for some time now: http://www.stans-headers.com/toyota_headers.htm

Unless an original TRD set of headers was in exceptionally very good condition, which would be very rare by now, I would not pay anything close to $400 for them. They usually go for considerably less on the MR2 forums. Additionally, the TRD headers were made from relatively thin metal, and would crack over time, plus you get very little if any hp gains from them, unless you have made huge modifications to the engine to properly take advantage of them, and even then you aren't going to get huge gains. Also they will produce considerably more noise than the oem manifold, which is already considered a very good design. They are not one of the best buys for the money. Much better to get a very good exhaust, and/or intake system.
