blacktop map sensor

Postby kengito » Wed Feb 20, 2013 12:52 am

hey guys am swaping in my blacktop in my ae86 and the only part i need is a map sensor , i know that the stock map sensor is part number 89420-12140 but every time i try to go to toyota for anything that has to do with parts for the blacktop they always tell me that since the engine is only in japan they cant get any parts , ive tryed google and looking up info in the forums and no luck . so if anyone could tell me what map sensor works and is compatible with the blacktop it would be greatly appreciated thanks

any map sensor from an A series engine will work. For example i went to the junk yard and got a map sensor from a 1996 Toyota corolla with a 7afe plugs rights in and works!

This is way to generalized. If you pick any map sensor that is not the original you must go through all the tests by the book for the ECU you are using to make sure it reads right. Even then there is some risk but if it passes all tests it will likely be ok.

OK, fair enough. The OEM MAP sensor from a 4afe and 7afe has worked for me and many others.

^yup. And I tested the 4afe & 7afe sensors. Same reading that the BT says the japan only sensor should read.
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.

That's cool and good to know. I was just pointing out that it should have been said like that.
There are a lot of A series motors and a generalized statement like above can give someone the impression that all MAP sensors are the same.
I would be willing to bet that the 4AGZE MAP sensor would not be compatible and likely measures a much higher pressure than the BT or FE motors.
There is also the NA SP and some came with MAP. That sensor could very well work as well but someone would need to test it to confirm.
I have no idea if there were other A series motors with MAP but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yep my wording could have been a little off. However doesn't the 4AGZE use a MAF?

Largeport GZE is AFM. SP GZE is MAP.

4AFE map here. Works fine. Swapped between a real BT 20v map and the 4AFE Tercel one, no difference. Just make sure the plug on the harness is pinned correctly for a BT 20v.

if it utilizes the same plug, its the same pin-out
