So im building a new 4A-GTE for my AE86. its the type with a 7-rib block and the larger 42mm crank journals with the beefy GZE rods with the 20mm pin end and the JDM 8.9 GZE pistons.
i have numbered all the rods and everything. BUT i F'd up and didnt notate which way the rods face.....
of course they fit and work both way but im sure it matters which way they face.
the rods have writting stamped on one face of the I beam and the other side is flat. nothing on it.
WHICH WAY FACES FORWARD???? does the side with the writting face the front?? (towards the T-belt) or does the blank side??

Edited for my mistake.
Protrusion on the rod points to the front of the motor.

Re: connecting rod question!!!!!!!!!!! HELP ME
i did have a feeling that was possible..... thank you yoshi. you have helped me in the past and you know your stuff.
you may remember my post a while back. it was about my turbo AE86 running a 22-RTE ecu!! lols
i melted my standard N/A pistons due to leaning out. i didnt know **** about tuning back then.
now i have a wideband and i am getting the megasquirt PNP and a better water meth kit soon so i can finally safely run more boost.
ill make a build log soon.

Re: connecting rod question!!!!!!!!!!! HELP ME
If they are OEM rods there 4 indications to identify the front.
On the rod beam there's a round bump to indicate the front.
On the cap there is an extra bit to the curved shape on the outside of the cap.
The thrust side oiling hole.
And the 2 grooves for the bearing notches to sit into (if in doubt pull off a main cap to see which side of the engine their grooves are on.
Maybe if you had 20V blacktop rods it wouldn't matter as they have cylinder lubing grooves on both sides of the rod.

Ugh I can't believe I messed that up.
jdm86gtz is correct. The protrusion on the stock rods points to the front of the motor.
